Chaozhou, Shantou, Shanwei, and Huizhou have changed their school start date to September 4th due to the impact of Typhoon "Sula"
Affected by the 9th typhoon of this year, cities such as Chaozhou, Shantou, Shanwei, and Huizhou in Guangdong Province have announced the adjustment of the opening time of primary and secondary schools to September 4th.
The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue an orange typhoon warning at 18:00 on August 30th. The center of Typhoon "Sula" was located at 5 pm this afternoon on the sea surface approximately 485 kilometers southeast of Huilai, Guangdong. The maximum wind force near the center was above 17 levels.
It is expected that "Sula" will move in a northwest direction at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour, and will soon move into the northeast sea surface of the South China Sea, gradually approaching the coastal areas of eastern Guangdong to southern Fujian. It is possible that it will land along the coast from Huilai, Guangdong to Hong Kong during the day on September 1st, or it may move in a southwest direction in the coastal waters of eastern Guangdong.
On the afternoon of August 30th, the Education Bureau of Shantou City issued a notice stating that after research and decision, the start time of the autumn semester in 2023 for primary and secondary schools in the city will be adjusted to September 4th. Starting from August 31st, all on campus activities such as summer childcare, senior high school classes, and military training will be orderly suspended. Each university, vocational college, and secondary vocational school shall follow the arrangements for teachers and students to return to school. All regions and schools should make proper arrangements to ensure that all work is in place, and make every effort to prevent typhoons, heavy rainfall, and potential secondary disasters, as well as prepare for various preparations before the start of the school year, and make every effort to ensure the safety of the lives and property of teachers and students.
The Education Bureau of Shanwei City issued an emergency notice on the same day, stating that the start of the new semester for primary and secondary schools in the city has been postponed from September 1st to September 4th, and courses from September 1st will be supplemented on September 9th. Starting from August 31st, high school seniors who have already started classes and all extracurricular training institutions in the city will suspend classes. On campus teaching and research activities will be suspended until the typhoon affects them and it is confirmed that they meet the conditions for resuming classes before resuming classes.

In Huizhou City, the Huizhou City Three Defense Command has decided to upgrade the level IV emergency response to level III emergency response on August 30th at 15:00. Various counties and districts in the city have successively issued white typhoon warning signals.
After research by the Education Bureau of Huizhou City, it has been decided to extend the start of the autumn semester in 2023 to September 4, 2023.
Affected by the typhoon, in order to ensure the safety of passenger train transportation, all trains on the Dongguan Huizhou Intercity Railway were temporarily suspended from September 1st to 3rd.
In addition, several coastal scenic spots in Huizhou have temporarily suspended their opening to the public. The Port Turtle National Nature Reserve, Xunliao Coastal Tourist Resort, Pinghai Hot Springs and other A-level tourist attractions, as well as the Shuangyue Bay Observation Platform, Haozhao Building Wetland Park, Heipaijiao Geological Park and other seaside baths, islands, and parks within the jurisdiction of Huidong County, are temporarily closed to the public. A-level tourist attractions such as Daya Bay Mangrove Park and Bihai Bay Tourist Resort, as well as Gold Coast, Xiaojing Bay Beach, and Bubble Sea Beach, are temporarily closed to the public.
