Change people! Sharps takes over from Wallace as the new UK Secretary of Defense
On August 31, according to Sky News, the British Prime Minister confirmed that after Ben Wallace resigned, he appointed Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions Secretary Grant Sharps as the Secretary of Defense.
According to reports, on the same day, the UK Prime Minister's Office posted on social media stating that "Grant Sharps has been appointed as the UK Secretary of Defense."
After accepting the appointment, Sharps also stated on social media, "I am honored to be appointed as the Secretary of Defense. I want to pay tribute to Ben Wallace for his significant contributions to UK defense and global security over the past four years."
Shapps also added, "When I start working... I look forward to working with our armed forces and continuing to support Ukraine against Russia."
On the same day, former British Prime Minister Johnson also posted on social media stating that Sharps was an "excellent candidate" to replace Ben Wallace.
According to the BBC, the Secretary of Defense will be Sharps' fifth cabinet position in less than a year, including the Energy Secretary, Transport Secretary, and Home Secretary, who will last only six days. Sharps is also the shortest serving Home Secretary in British history.
Earlier that day, Ben Wallace submitted his resignation to British Prime Minister Sunak, resigning from his position as Secretary of Defense.
Claire Coutinho, former UK Minister of Children, Families and Welfare, will replace Shapes as Minister of Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions.
