On July 26th, 2023, the Air Force Aviation Open Event Changchun Aviation Exhibition opened in Changchun. Multiple flying and parachuting performance teams danced together in the long sky, and the J-20 four aircraft formation conducted a mobile flight demonstration. The Y-20 conducted its first aerial refueling display with the J-20 and J-16, while the J-10S and J-11BS conducted their first simulated aerial combat demonstration with different aircraft. The Air Force's August 1st Flight Performance Team made its first public appearance in China after changing to the J-10C. Military expert Wang Mingzhi stated in an interview with reporters that the aviation opening event presented three highlights.
① Oil Transportation -20 showcases three types of technical and tactical actions for the first time
Yunyou-20 is a new generation of aerial refueling equipment in China. It has conducted aerial refueling training multiple times with fighter jets such as J-20, J-16, and J-10C, enhancing the long-range maneuverability of air force aviation.
Wang Mingzhi stated that the biggest highlight of this year's Air Force aviation opening up event is the three types of technical and tactical actions demonstrated by the Y-20, including field communication with the J-20 air escort formation, field communication with the J-20 and J-16 refueling formations, as well as single machine maneuvers such as short takeoff, Afghan style landing lift, steep slope snake maneuver, release of jamming bombs, and rapid landing.
In last year's aviation opening up event, the Air Force released photos of the Y-20, J-20, and J-16 aircraft in the same frame for the first time. In less than a year, the Y-20, along with the J-20 and J-16, jointly emerged in Changchun with a stunning five aircraft formation, presenting a comprehensive system capability.
② The flight performance is compact and exciting, with more practical value
The Air Force's August 1st Flight Performance Team, equipped with the J-10C, made its public debut in China for the first time. Several J-10Cs performed 20 movements in just 20 minutes, including a change in direction during a weight struggle, synchronous rolling of six aircraft, grouping and blooming of six aircraft, and visual follow-up of five aircraft on a small route landing. Not only did the action design become more compact and exciting, but it also had high practical value.
In this aviation open event, the "Red Eagle" flight performance team added performances such as a seven aircraft formation while retaining characteristic movements such as three aircraft spin, two aircraft carousel, and eight aircraft weight struggle.
The Air Force Aviation Brigade demonstrated tactical maneuvers such as a dense formation of J-20 four aircraft at the rear, a diamond formation of four aircraft, and four aircraft tactical penetration, demonstrating the confidence of J-20 pilots; In just 12 minutes, the J-16 showcased high difficulty maneuvers such as dual aircraft ultra-low altitude, low-speed pass through the field, and dual aircraft assisted hovering, winning continuous applause from the audience on site.
③ Welcome new flying students with unique etiquette
On July 19th, in order to attract more outstanding students to join the People's Air Force, the Air Force once again dispatched Y-20 to transport new flying students to the Air Force Aviation University for registration. The students also made the youthful oath of "flying for the motherland and fighting for the motherland" on site, which is inspiring and moving. Wang Mingzhi stated that this is also a microcosm of the spirit of the vast number of air force officers and soldiers who are loyal to the Party and fly for war.
This year is the 10th time that the Air Force has held an aviation open event. Over the past decade, the Air Force's aviation opening activities have not only become a business card for the People's Air Force to showcase its strength and confidence, but also a special "opening ceremony" for batches of "chicks" after entering the school. This blue sky event has planted the seeds of pursuing dreams and serving the country through aviation in the hearts of many teenagers.
