Central Radio and Television Financial Review | Dual Carbon Development Towards "Real" and "Green" Leading High Quality Development Expo | Green | Financial Review
Exhibition setup, economic performance. With the opening of the 2023 Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Technology, Products and Achievements Expo, the first domestic expo with the theme of "carbon neutrality" has attracted global attention, and has a positive significance in promoting the promotion of carbon neutrality related technologies and industrial development, and promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of the economy and society.
In the context of global integration, maintaining global energy security, addressing global climate change, and promoting global economic growth have become important issues that the world is facing together. In 2020, China announced to the world that it will increase its national independent contribution, adopt more powerful policies and measures, strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.
Moving towards carbon neutrality is a long and arduous task. Starting from 2020, China has issued documents such as the White Paper on China's Energy Development in the New Era, the Action Plan for Carbon Peak before 2030, and the Implementation Plan for Science and Technology to Support Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality, with a global perspective. These documents serve as top-level designs for the goal and indicate the direction for progress.
The blueprint is drawn to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality, which is moving towards reality. Carbon peak and carbon neutrality involve multiple aspects such as basic research, technological research and development, application demonstration, achievement promotion, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. In the field of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, China has been laying out for many years, with extensive and profound accumulation, and has the basic conditions to actively and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
In recent years, a series of achievements in promoting "dual carbon" have been successively implemented. The National Demonstration Project of 100 MW Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage has been successfully connected to the grid for power generation in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. The 100 MW Dalian Flow Battery Energy Storage and Peaking Regulation Power Station has entered grid connection debugging and gradually put into use. The liquid sunlight project in Lanzhou New Area, Gansu Province is continuously converting carbon dioxide into methanol. The Beijing Winter Olympics has fulfilled its commitment to "carbon neutrality"... This all reflects China's firm pace in promoting green development and unremitting efforts to address global climate change.
At the 2023 Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Technology, Products and Achievements Expo, the public further experienced the promoting effect of low-carbon on high-quality development. The low-carbon/zero carbon fuel power system model for ships, the sand table model for clean energy comprehensive system solutions, and the plant-based leather clothing made from waste distiller's grains tell their low-carbon stories one by one. Each vivid case showcases the practical application of traditional industrial energy-saving renovation, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and low-carbon life to the outside world. Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality are gradually integrated into production practice, and people are eager to see the improvement and enhancement of low-carbon technology in their lives.
At present, China has established the world's largest carbon market and clean power generation system, and the installed capacity of renewable energy in China has exceeded that of coal-fired power. According to data from the National Energy Administration of China, as of the end of 2022, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China reached 1.213 billion kilowatts, of which the installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power in China has exceeded 120 million kilowatts, making it one of the largest wind power markets in the world. Meanwhile, China is also the world's largest manufacturer of solar panels.
Energy technology and its related industries have shown strong vitality and are expected to become new growth drivers for industrial upgrading. China is not only a participant in this "green movement", but also a beneficiary of low-carbon actions.
As the cells of China's economic operation, enterprises are important implementation units for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Especially state-owned and central enterprises actively play a leading and driving role, increase efforts to overcome key core technologies, focus on filling the gaps in the industrial chain, and report good news frequently, gradually making "green" the "engine" that leads the high-quality development of the industry.
