CCTV reporter Jiang Lin: The atmosphere of the Universiade at Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Center has become increasingly strong. Two water teams in Chengdu are collaborating with the venue to complete pre match testing work. The staff will assess the water circulation system, water temperature system, and other venue facilities according to the competition standards to ensure the venue's ability to support the competition.
Water polo is known as the ball sport that consumes the most physical energy per unit of time. The water polo competition is divided into four sections, each lasting 7 minutes. During the competition, athletes cannot touch the bottom and walls of the pool, which means they must step on the water or swim throughout the entire process. In addition, they must compete and jump out of the water to pass, shoot, etc. In a highly competitive water polo game, a main player can swim 5 kilometers.
As a Universiade venue that undertakes water polo projects, the Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Center is also the most prominent water-saving venue among the Universiade venues. It adopted the design concept of sponge city at the beginning of its construction. The ground around the venue is paved with high permeability materials, combined with a sunken permeable green belt design. In addition, the sloping roof of the venue itself plays a role in water collection. Rainwater can enter the water storage tank at the bottom of the venue in various ways, and after purification, it can become water for greening, cleaning inside and outside the venue, and supplementing central air conditioning. More importantly, this design can minimize the accumulation of water in the public areas of the venue, which is a win-win situation.
