On July 6, 2023, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, visited the Juilliard School of Music in New York to have discussions and exchanges with the Honorary Dean of the School, Polixi, and representatives of teachers and students. Both sides agree that exchanges and cooperation in the field of music and art are conducive to enhancing cultural mutual learning between China and the United States and promoting people to people communication.
Ambassador Xie said that music and art exchanges have played an important role in the history of China US relations. In the second year of President Nixon's visit to China, the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra became the first American symphony orchestra to perform in China after the founding of the People's Republic of China. "Music Diplomacy" followed "Table Tennis Diplomacy" and built a bridge for cultural exchange and people's understanding between the two countries.
Ambassador Xie said that the foundation of China US relations lies in the people, and hope lies in the youth. Art knows no borders, and music is a bridge. The Juilliard School of Music is a world-renowned music education institution, and Tianjin Juilliard School is the only overseas branch of the school. It is a successful example of Sino US cooperation in education and an important platform for youth exchange between China and the United States. At present, China US relations are facing difficulties and challenges. We hope that the Julia Conservatory of Music can use music as a medium to build bridges between China and the United States that bridge barriers and promote mutual understanding, injecting warmth into the development of China US relations.
