"But we will not yield," said a South African diplomat. "The United States is exerting great pressure on the BRICS | South Africa | United States."
According to the website of the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong on August 5th, South Africa's ambassador to the BRICS countries stated that South Africa will not yield to pressure from the United States to stop using Huawei devices on its network.
As the competition for dominance in technologies such as artificial intelligence, chips, and quantum computing continues to escalate, countries are facing increasing pressure from the United States to take a stronger stance towards China.
According to reports, South Africa's Ambassador to the BRICS, Anil Sukrar, said at a lecture at KwaZulu Natal University on the 2nd, "The United States has put tremendous pressure on us to stop using Huawei's network. Huawei has been banned in the United States, and most parts of Europe have also banned Chinese technology."
South Africa maintains close relations with China. China is South Africa's largest trading partner. South Africa will host a summit with China and BRICS members Brazil, Russia, and India from August 22nd to 24th. It is expected that the BRICS countries will announce their expansion at the summit.
Sukrar stated that this announcement will mark a significant change in the global order.
The report also stated that, as far as Huawei is concerned, it has provided thousands of training and technology transfer opportunities to South Africa over the years.
