Brazilian scholar: The BRICS mechanism is crucial for shaping the global governance system | Worldview countries | BRICS | Global
Beijing, August 25th (Xinhua) - The 15th meeting of BRICS leaders was held in Johannesburg, South Africa from August 22nd to 24th. This is the first face-to-face meeting between leaders of BRICS countries in over three years, and also the largest summit of heads of state and government in the "global South" in recent years. The heads of state held in-depth discussions on topics of common concern such as cooperation and openness. Recently, Hua Yiqing, a senior researcher at a globalization think tank and visiting scholar at Fudan University, gave an exclusive interview to China News Network and shared her in-depth observations on the BRICS summit.
Hua Yiqing stated that the BRICS mechanism has played a very important role in shaping a more inclusive global governance system, making the voice of the "global south" more representative and providing diversified solutions for other countries and regions around the world.
She further analyzed that since the establishment of the BRICS mechanism, member countries have made significant progress in many areas. The BRICS mechanism has played an undeniable role in promoting trade growth, enhancing new market access, and enhancing the resilience of capital markets in these countries. In the view of Hua Yiqing, the BRICS is a promising cooperation mechanism that can meet the urgent needs of all parties.
In today's world, the challenges faced by human society are becoming increasingly complex, and countries cannot solve these common problems alone. Hua Yiqing believes that the BRICS mechanism is inclusive and representative, providing a platform for countries to jointly design solutions to address challenges. "Each country should express its own views, but equally important is to reach consensus based on different perspectives and come up with practical and feasible solutions."
As a foreign visiting scholar at Fudan University, Hua Yiqing also believes that China has played an important role in the BRICS mechanism, bringing many new ideas and concepts, the most attractive proposals, and the most practical initiatives. As a member of the BRICS countries, China has actively participated in discussions on various issues and promoted cooperation between the BRICS countries and African countries. Taking economic and trade cooperation as an example, China has maintained close trade exchanges with other BRICS countries. Other countries can draw inspiration from this mature bilateral or multilateral relationship.
In fact, in addition to the official meetings of BRICS leaders, participating countries have also established distinctive organizational mechanisms such as the BRICS Think Tank Council and the BRICS Business Council. In the view of Hua Yiqing, they have injected vitality into the mechanisms of the BRICS countries and provided a platform for regular communication and dialogue among people from all walks of life.
