According to reports, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdulrahijan and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held a meeting on June 2 in Cape Town, South Africa, on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the "Friends of the BRICS" Meeting.
According to a report citing the website of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amir Abdulrahijan expressed satisfaction with the good progress made in bilateral relations, stating that the ambassadors of the two countries have been fortunate enough to be appointed, laying the foundation for the establishment of embassies and consulates between the two countries.
He said that in the previous talks, both sides discussed the necessity of strengthening the commercial and economic relations between the two countries. He also stated that the Saudi Foreign Minister's upcoming visit to Tehran provides an opportunity for further discussion and exchange of views between the two sides to promote the development of bilateral relations in various fields.
He also believes that the BRICS countries provide a new opportunity for multilateral cooperation between Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other member states of the organization, especially in the economic and commercial fields.
According to reports, the Saudi Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction with the excellent progress made in bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Faisal expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for welcoming the Saudi technical delegation to visit and providing valuable assistance, in order to lay the foundation for Saudi Arabia to open an embassy and consulate in Iran.
He also said that with excellent bilateral cooperation, both sides quickly completed the stage of appointing ambassadors, creating conditions for opening political missions and embassies. The relationship between the two countries is moving towards a new stage, which will be beneficial to the interests of both countries and the entire region.
The Saudi Foreign Minister also said that he will soon visit Tehran.
According to a report by Iran's Maher news agency on the 3rd, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal will visit Tehran next week. During the visit, Faisal will meet with the Iranian President and other officials to discuss the development of bilateral relations.
In March of this year, with the mediation of China, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a reconciliation agreement, ending the seven-year hostile relationship between the two countries. On April 6th, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran met in Beijing and signed a joint statement under the witness of China, announcing the resumption of diplomatic relations from now on.
