Blessing! The award bouquet for the Hangzhou Asian Games is called "fruitful"
On August 24th, 30 days before the opening countdown of the Hangzhou Asian Games, the award materials for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou were officially released, including a bouquet, tray, and podium. What are the design stories behind the award materials? Let's take a look together!
Mascot designer "coming out again"
First time using a floral device in an award bouquet
The award bouquet released this time is called "Abundant Fruits", representing the sportsmanship of Asian Games athletes who have overcome obstacles and never give up. We wish athletes a fruitful and prestigious return at the Asian Games.

Each bouquet is composed of 14 types of flower materials - rice ears and lotus pods symbolizing harvest and achievement, Chinese self cultivated variety rose called "Red Heart", butterfly orchids representing the "Rainbow Purple" of the Asian Games, as well as Hangzhou's characteristic plants such as Longjing Tea Branch and Osmanthus Branch.
Compared to previous large-scale competitions, "fruitful" is the first time an award bouquet featuring floral arrangements has been added.
The inspiration for the floral design comes from the official kilns of the Southern Song Dynasty in China, which were made from Dongyang woodcarving, a national intangible cultural heritage site. The design of the Huagu has undergone 12 rounds of modifications, with an overall height of 18 centimeters, which is very delicate and compact. The bottle mouth integrates elements of mascot and Qiantang tide, and the undulating water patterns are taken from the poetic beauty of Zhejiang's mountains and waters. The shape of the bottle mouth mascot celebrates the victory of winning the crown with a lively and cheerful attitude.
Zhang Wen, the person in charge of designing the bouquet for the Hangzhou Asian Games and a teacher at the Professional Basic Education Department of the China Academy of Fine Arts, is also the designer of the mascot "Jiangnan Yi" for the Hangzhou Asian Games. He stated that the design of the flower vase fully pursues a "delicate feeling" in terms of proportion, size, and feel. "When designing, we fully considered the ergonomic sense of size, different athletes, heights, body types, and the feeling of holding the flower vase with different palm sizes, including how much the mascot can be exposed when holding the vase tightly, the fusion of flower patterns, and other factors, ultimately forming a ratio similar to the golden ratio."

"The flower vase was a bronze ceremonial vessel used to celebrate the joy of victory during the Warring States period, and evolved into a porcelain used for decoration during the Song Dynasty." Zhang Wen said, "Through the innovation of this flower vase, we hope to transform the award bouquet from a simple bouquet of flowers into a permanent souvenir, expressing the joy of winning athletes' celebration of victory."
Presenting awards with Hangzhou Osmanthus Flower
Let athletes experience the charm of Hangzhou
In the design, as the flower of Hangzhou, osmanthus also has a unique story related to the Asian Games.

On March 7th of this year, the "I Contribute a Strategy for the Asian Games" solicitation activity in Hangzhou was announced. The proposal put forward by the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Cultural Relics to "make the Osmanthus - the" Osmanthus Crown "flower into the award bouquet for the Asian Games" won the first prize.
"When we first learned that osmanthus had become one of the top flowers on the list, everyone was extremely excited!" said the representative of the landscaping team of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape Cultural Relics. This idea originated from a brainstorming session where when a team member suggested using osmanthus as an award bouquet, everyone present applauded and exclaimed, "That's it!"
Osmanthus has a cultivation history of nearly a thousand years in Hangzhou. It is known for its clear and beautiful scenery, with three autumnal osmanthus seeds and ten mile lotus flowers. At the same time, the osmanthus tree is closely related to the champion in Chinese culture, and "winning the crown" is often used to express congratulations to the winner.
"When the Hangzhou Asian Games are held, it is in full bloom with osmanthus flowers. We suggest making bouquets of osmanthus flowers and osmanthus branches as award flowers, and using the names of gold, silver, and bronze medals represented by golden osmanthus, silver osmanthus, and red osmanthus, so that athletes can fully experience the beauty of osmanthus flowers in touch, smell, and vision, and make the Hangzhou Asian Games more prominent in Hangzhou's characteristics," said a representative of the landscaping team of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape Cultural Relics.

What excited the team members even more was that in the final presentation of the award bouquet, their suggestions were affirmed - osmanthus twigs, Longjing tea twigs, rice ears, lotus pods, etc. formed a group.
During the Hangzhou Asian Games, the city was filled with the fragrance of osmanthus, and during the blooming season, the garden and greening team of the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Landscape and Cultural Heritage also presented a map of Hangzhou's appreciation of osmanthus to everyone. "We look forward to friends from all over Asia coming to Hangzhou to watch the Asian Games, appreciate osmanthus flowers, and taste Longjing, experiencing the beauty of the host city and the charm of Chinese culture."

As a backdrop for the medals, the award tray and podium released this time were designed and completed by Zhang Junjie, the design director of the Hangzhou Asian Games medal "Hushan" and the director of the Industrial Design Department of the China Academy of Fine Arts.
The design inspiration for the award tray is in line with the Hangzhou Asian Games medal "Hu Shan" - the rippling water surface of West Lake in the gentle breeze - combined with the elegant ribbon image in the core graphic "Run Ze", creating a clean and atmospheric atmosphere. The theme color of "Rainbow Rhyme Purple" also matches the color of the medal ribbon and award podium.
The outer side of the award podium adopts a gradient color with the theme of "Rainbow Rhyme Purple", conveying the concept of vitality and innovation. The tabletop adopts a "ink white" color, showcasing the spirit of inclusiveness and harmony in the Asian land.
Zhang Junjie stated that both the award tray and podium have adopted a relatively simple form, but "simplicity is not simple.".

The overall award tray is made of metal aluminum material and pressed into shape, with a water-based environmentally friendly coating on the surface, which is lightweight, sturdy, and environmentally friendly. The tray is about 52 centimeters long and can hold three gold, silver, and copper medals at the same time.
The award podium adopts a modular design, with each module about one meter long, which can be assembled according to the number of award-winning athletes in different sports. The area where athletes stand is made of anti-skid materials, which improves the safety of receiving awards. At the same time, the front theme image board can be replaced and reused to reflect the spirit of green and frugal competition.
The award ceremony, as the highlight moment of the competition, is highly anticipated by the audience during the competition. Previously, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee had already released the medal "Hushan" and the flag bearer, as well as the award ceremony costume "Yunjuan Shuxia". In 30 days, the Hangzhou Asian Games will soon kick off grandly. Let's look forward to and witness the moment when athletes celebrate victory together.
