"If Captain Ye is here, we can rest assured!" This is a phrase that people often say when encountering technical difficulties in a certain unit of the Southern Theater Command. The term "Captain Ye" referred to by everyone refers to Ye Shengxue, a first-class sergeant and communication technician in the department.
During the interview, when mentioning Ye Shengxue, his comrades all gave thumbs up. Everyone says that Captain Ye is an expert type talent. Every time there is a communication network malfunction, with his intervention, the problem can always be easily solved.
In July of this year, Ye Shengxue, who has 26 years of military experience, was just recognized as an "outstanding soldier in the entire army". Over the years, Ye Shengxue has proficiently mastered more than 10 professional skills, including fiber optic communication, computer networks, software development, and system integration. He has participated in more than 30 major military and theater level training missions and contributed technical strength to the construction of theater combat effectiveness with his sweat. He is praised as the "King of War" who guards the main battle connectivity.
"On the battlefield, every second is about success or failure"
"When it comes to urgent and difficult tasks, the first thing that comes to mind is Ye Shengxue." "Old Ye likes to deal with various technical 'difficult and complicated problems'." During the interview, reporters heard many similar evaluations.
As soon as the theater of war was established, the first important task was to establish a joint combat command center for the theater of war. The installation and debugging task of the central video transmission system has fallen on Ye Shengxue's shoulders.
"At that time, the most touching thing was that the task was very urgent, only one week." Ye Shengxue introduced that the task purchased equipment from five or six manufacturers. According to the conventional process, compatibility testing should be done first before entering the site for installation. However, time was tight and the task was heavy, so we could only install and debug at the same time. The Joint Guidance Center has high confidentiality requirements, and technical personnel from manufacturers are not allowed to enter. Debugging work can only rely on Ye Shengxue and his comrades to explore.
In order to solve compatibility issues in the shortest possible time, Ye Shengxue took a different approach and wrote a set of system control code by himself, which is equivalent to using a customized software to integrate devices of different standards together. These codes have been upgraded several times and have been used until now.
It is not easy to install and debug the equipment in a short period of time, and Ye Shengxue is still trying his best to "cut corners" on details. At that time, the manufacturer set a minimum response time of 200 milliseconds for switching a single display screen signal. If multiple display screen signals were switched simultaneously, it would take several seconds of response time and may cause the system to crash. Ye Shengxue has made improvements to software and hardware by compressing the duration of single screen switching by 3/4 and shortening multi screen switching to less than 0.5 seconds. "On the battlefield, every second is related to success or failure. As a soldier, serving and preparing for battle, being able to snatch a second is a second." Ye Sheng said.
"My hobby is to ponder, the more I can't understand, the more I want to ponder."
"The innovative projects that Lao Ye participated in the development have all been effective and helped us solve many problems," the relevant person in charge of the department told reporters. Ye Shengxue has participated in many project development and also served as the project leader, with 6 achievements winning the third prize of the Military Science and Technology Progress Award.

The first award-winning project was a certain network management system. At that time, when Ye Shengxue was responsible for communication duty tasks, he found that communication equipment from different network systems were integrated. A duty officer had to monitor several systems simultaneously, and the data between different network systems was not interconnected. Once a communication failure occurred, the analysis was very cumbersome, and everyone felt a lot of pressure on duty.
Can we aggregate all the data into one system? Ye Sheng's theory is to do as you please. However, after some experimentation, he realized that he had underestimated the enemy: this job was not as simple as he had imagined. The biggest difficulty lies in the fact that various communication devices come from different manufacturers, and not only are data formats diverse, but also the source code of the devices cannot be obtained.
"My hobby is to ponder, and the more I can't understand, the more I want to ponder. As soon as I ponder, I become fascinated and must uncover the truth." This situation led to Ye Shengxue's stubborn determination to delve into the details. Since there is no shortcut, let's use the most primitive method - testing and exploring each device one by one. In this way, he opened a data "blind box" for half a year and finally gathered data from various network systems into one system. The implementation of this system allows everyone to only pay attention to one computer while on duty, and it can also perform fault self inspection through data correlation analysis, receiving praise from comrades.
"Don't worry, there will always be a day when you learn."
In the eyes of his comrades, Ye Shengxue is a true "academic bully". However, unlike the commonly known "academic achievers", Ye Shengxue only had a junior high school education before enlisting. After joining the army, Ye Shengxue discovered that in order to solve many technical problems, one must improve their knowledge level. So, he used every bit of his spare time to read and study. Through self-study, he successively obtained vocational school, college, and undergraduate degrees, and later obtained a master's degree in computer engineering from Sun Yat sen University.
"Don't worry, there will always be a day when you learn!" This is what Ye Shengxue said. Nowadays, Ye Shengxue, who is in his 40s, still has a strong desire for new knowledge.
"Class monitor Ye loves learning and is a 'technical controller'. Senior engineer He Jingbo once lived in the same dormitory as Ye Shengxue. When he first moved in, he found that Ye Shengxue was mostly operating a computer during his rest time. He thought he was surfing the internet, but when he looked over, he found out that Ye Shengxue was learning a new programming language.".
He Jingbo only found out after a deep understanding that this veteran was not only a communication expert, but also a computer expert, proficient in seven or eight programming languages alone. At that time, the project led by He Jingbo happened to lack a versatile person who knew both communication and programming, so Ye Sheng became the only soldier in that project team.
Ye Shengxue is not only eager to learn himself, but also willing to pass on knowledge to his comrades in arms. During a video conference, there was a sudden screen malfunction on site, and the staff invited Ye Shengxue to help. Ye Shengxue inspected each line one by one, meticulously solved the problem, and worked overtime to prepare a training lesson plan to explain to everyone.
"Teacher Ye, let's talk more!" At that time, the originally scheduled 20 minute micro class was forcibly "delayed" into one and a half hours due to repeated demands from all the officers and soldiers in the room. From theoretical explanation to practical operation, Ye Sheng learned to teach hand in hand and explain step by step. When encountering something difficult for everyone to understand, he explained and explained it over and over again, tirelessly until everyone understood.
