A new scam has emerged in the field of collectible trading. On the 30th, the reporter learned from the Fengtai Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau that recently, the Fengtai police cracked down on a fraud gang that falsely claimed to have built a collection sales platform, lured collectors to produce VR display videos of their collections, and defrauded them of high production fees. At present, the seven main suspects in the gang, led by Zhang Xuan and Zhang Wei, have been criminally detained by the Fengtai police.
It is reported that Mr. Wang, the victim, is a fan of cultural relics collection. He wanted to resell several collectibles and posted information online. In March of this year, a man claiming to be a collectible sales agent contacted Mr. Wang, stating that he could help introduce buyers for promotion, but he needed to provide a VR display video of the collectibles being sold. Due to not knowing where to make VR videos, Mr. Wang chose a production company recommended by an intermediary.
However, after the video production was completed, the intermediary informed Mr. Wang that the cultural relics department required the inclusion of cultural relic codes, unified credit codes, and other information in the VR videos of the collection. Mr. Wang, who was eager to take action, had to ask the VR video production company to repeatedly modify the video, ultimately spending 5000 yuan. However, the collection was never sold, and the intermediary immediately "lost contact". Only then did Mr. Wang realize that he had been deceived.
After receiving the alarm, the Fengtai police quickly launched an investigation and confirmed based on relevant clues that the case was committed by a collection fraud gang. In June of this year, the Criminal Investigation Detachment of Fengtai Branch rushed to a city in Guangdong and, with the cooperation of the local police, arrested members of a fraud gang. The investigating police officer explained that members of the gang were in the same rental room, with some playing intermediaries and some playing staff from VR video production companies.
At present, seven main suspects, led by Zhang Xuan and Zhang Wei, have been criminally detained by the Fengtai police and escorted back to Beijing. The case is undergoing further work.
