Wu Xi, Director General of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the "Linjia No. 7 Salon" special briefing held in Beijing today. At the meeting, Wu Xi shared the touching story of the Chinese government's evacuation of Chinese citizens from Sudan and their journey back thousands of miles.
Wu Xi said that during the evacuation period, the staff of the Consular Protection Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the consular officials on the evacuation convoy every half hour to determine their safety status. The Consular Protection Center has a dedicated blackboard to track how many people have been safely transferred. Every Chinese citizen has precise statistics on which direction they evacuated from and when they completed their evacuation. There are a total of 1508 Chinese citizens, and we are all precise to the nearest individual.
China helps 231 foreign citizens from 8 countries evacuate
Wu Xi stated that during the evacuation process, we not only safely evacuated our own citizens, but also helped 231 foreign citizens from eight countries including Pakistan and Brazil to evacuate safely. She also shared a very touching evacuation story: "On a Chinese warship, a Pakistani little girl held candy and wanted to give it to our colleagues in the front work group. She brought these candies all the way from Khartoum to Port Sudan, and she may not even be willing to eat them herself. In such a situation, when she arrived on the warship, she wanted to give the candy to my colleagues, and this story also moved us very much."
