On July 31, 2023, Xiong Li, a cadre from Wangping Town, Mentougou District, sacrificed her life on duty during the emergency response to heavy rainfall in Sishufen Village, Wangping Town. She was only 36 years old.
Xiong Li, female, born in April 1987 in Yichun, Jiangxi, is a member of the Communist Party of China with a graduate degree. She started working in July 2010 and served as the Deputy Director and Level 3 Director of the Economic Development Office in Wangping Town, Mentougou District during her lifetime.
Affected by Typhoon Du Suri, Mentougou District in Beijing has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall since July 29th. All cadres of Baocun in Wangping Town, Mentougou District have gone deep into the villages under their jurisdiction to carry out flood prevention guidance work. Comrade Xiong Li, as a Baocun cadre of Seshufen Village, has been guiding and participating in flood prevention work in the village since July 29th. At around 9:30 am on July 31st, a dangerous situation was discovered around some old and dangerous houses in the village of Seshufen. The village was the largest hourly rainfall point in Mentougou District, with short-term heavy rainfall. Xiong Li, along with the village committee director and another village cadre, went to the dangerous location to survey, but unfortunately encountered difficulties and sacrificed themselves during the survey.
Comrade Xiong Li has been rooted in Wangping Town for 13 years since joining the workforce. This comrade is diligent, responsible, proactive, and has a strong sense of career responsibility. When the safety of the people's lives and property is threatened, he stands up, dares to take responsibility, is not afraid of difficulties, and is not afraid of sacrifice. He is a role model for the vast number of party members and cadres.
On August 4th, the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security decided to posthumously award Comrade Xiong Li the "Beijing Youth May Fourth Medal".
