Video footage shows that Haryana State Councilor Ishwar Singh was surrounded by a large number of people while visiting the flood affected Gula region. Suddenly, an angry looking woman in the crowd rushed forward and slapped him, questioning "Why are you only here now?" Indian media reported that the woman was very dissatisfied with the local dam breach causing flooding, and Singh was later rescued by his private security personnel.
Afterwards, Singh stated that the woman said, "The breach of the dam could have been avoided," and "I explained to her that it was a natural disaster and it had rained heavily in the past few days.". He also stated that he had forgiven the woman's behavior and would not take any legal action against her.
The Chief Minister of Haryana stated on the 12th that as many as 10 people have died in the state due to floods caused by continuous rainfall, and the number of deaths may continue to increase.
