The incident occurred on the morning of June 15, 1988, when neighbors discovered that Cao Yiguo's father, mother, and sister Cao Yaling had been killed, with knife and gunshot wounds on their bodies.
Cao Yiguo's uncle Teng Yongwu learned the news on the morning of the incident. After receiving the telegram, he quickly rushed from Harbin to Shuangyashan. The criminal police at the scene told him that there were no signs of doors and windows being pried, and the murderer entered through the door.
At the scene, he saw both gunshot and knife wounds on his sister's body, gunshot marks on her brother-in-law's eyebrows, and more than ten knife wounds on his niece's body.
Cao Yiguo said that all the evidence at that time pointed to one person: his former brother-in-law Xu Chuanmin. It is reported that after marriage, the couple often had arguments due to economic issues and trivial family matters, and their sister Cao Yaling showed signs of being beaten multiple times. After the incident, Xu Chuanmin never appeared again.
In 2022, the Shuangyashan police issued a reward notice for Xu Chuanmin online, with a reward amount of 100000 yuan.
On May 19, 2023, staff members of the Shuangyashan Public Security Bureau told reporters that the police are still fully investigating the case and have raised the bounty amount to 300000 yuan.
