According to Agence France Presse, Armenia called on the United Nations Security Council to hold a crisis meeting on the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh region on August 12th, stating that the humanitarian situation in the region has deteriorated. Armenia previously accused Azerbaijan of blockading this disputed area.
According to reports, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, Mhel Margaryan, stated in a letter to the Security Council, "The Armenian government demands intervention from the United Nations Security Council, which is the main global security guarantee body."
According to reports, Armenia has been accusing Azerbaijan of closing the only channel between the Naka region and Armenia, the Lachin Corridor, in recent months.

In his letter, Margareg stated that the people of the Naqa region are on the brink of a truly humanitarian disaster.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the issue of ownership of the Naka region. In 1994, both sides reached an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire, but the two countries have been in a hostile state due to the Naqa issue, and armed conflicts have occurred from time to time. In September 2020, a new round of conflict broke out between the two countries over the Naqa issue. On November 9th of the same year, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia signed a statement declaring a comprehensive ceasefire in the Naka region from midnight Moscow time on November 10th. On July 15th of this year, the latest round of peace talks on the Naca issue held in Brussels failed to make breakthrough progress. Armenian Prime Minister Nicol Pashnyan said on July 21 that there is a "high possibility" of a new war breaking out between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
