Are there fewer mosquitoes? Was it "heated to death"? Beijing CDC: No! Not being bitten much is because - mosquitoes | density | mosquitoes
Recently, some citizens expressed that they feel that there have been fewer mosquitoes in the Beijing area this summer, unlike the previous summer when they were "bitten". Mosquitoes have been "killed" by the heat. Is this true?
Beijing CDC: Mosquito density this year
Significantly increased compared to the same period last year
According to the monitoring of mosquito density in the city by the Disinfection and Pest Control Institute of the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the monitoring results show that the mosquito density this year has significantly increased rather than decreased compared to the same period last year.
Especially in early June this year, Beijing experienced multiple instances of precipitation, creating favorable environmental conditions for mosquito breeding.
Recently, some citizens have felt that the reason for the decrease in mosquitoes this year is actually that the probability of being bitten by mosquitoes in daily life has decreased, but this does not mean a decrease in mosquito density.
The reason for this phenomenon is that when the temperature is relatively high, especially when it exceeds the temperature conditions suitable for mosquito activity, there will be a decrease in mosquito bites.
Temperature too high or too low
Mosquito activity will significantly decrease
Generally speaking, the area where mosquitoes are active and biting is between 20 ℃ and 35 ℃. Beyond this temperature range, if the temperature is too high or too low, mosquitoes will be affected and restricted to a certain extent, and their activity will significantly decrease, resulting in a corresponding decrease in the frequency of mosquito bites on the population.
From May to October every year, the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducts regular monitoring of mosquito density. Historical monitoring shows that July to August is the peak period for mosquito density and biting in the Beijing area.
Based on the results of early mosquito monitoring, if the high temperature weather conditions are lifted, higher density mosquitoes will still pose a certain level of harm to citizens through biting and harassment. Citizens still need to do their own mosquito prevention work well.
How to reduce mosquito density and bite?
It is crucial to do this well at home
The main factors affecting mosquito density are climate and environment. In addition to a suitable climate, a suitable water breeding environment is also needed. Proper water management in various environments can effectively reduce mosquito density and bite.
Therefore, it is reminded that citizens should still pay attention to the management of various water bodies in their surroundings, such as changing the water used for raising flowers, plants, and fish at home every 7 days; If there are bottles, jars, and jars in front and behind the house, they should be flipped over or discarded directly to avoid water accumulation; If water storage is required, the lid should also be closed, and the water body should be stored for no more than 7 days.
