Are the parents of the research group being sold the "Top Scholar Handbook" of Tsinghua and Peking University? Be careful not to fall for it! Activity | Students | Parents
During the summer vacation, various research and learning activities are popular. At the same time, it is not uncommon for research groups to become tourist groups, and there are issues such as mismatched products. The reporter found during a visit that many young people who claimed to be students of some prestigious schools were selling so-called "champion handbooks" and cultural and creative products during the communication process with research group students at the open attractions of some prestigious schools. So, are these books and souvenirs compliant educational products?
Popular check-in places for graduate studies in prestigious schools
Various manuals and cultural and creative products are selling well in the vicinity
This summer, prestigious universities such as Tsinghua and Peking University resumed campus visits, attracting a large number of tourists. Starting from August 7th, several prestigious universities, including Tsinghua University, have successively ended their holiday reception work, and only weekends and statutory holidays will continue to open campus visits.
With the reduction of campus visitation quotas, open venues such as museums associated with prestigious schools have become the focus of recent research group visits. The reporter saw near the Tsinghua University Art Museum, an open attraction of Tsinghua University, that in recent days, a large number of research groups have still come to visit.
The reporter found during a visit that in the public area outside the Tsinghua Art Museum, there will be young people who claim to be "Tsinghua students" and students who come to study and exchange ideas.
This young man introduced that he is a 2022 undergraduate student from Tsinghua University, from a poor family, and through his own efforts, he was admitted to Tsinghua University. A parent present stated that this speech was a "Tsinghua Student Exchange Event" arranged by the travel agency.
After the speech, the young man took out a booklet called "Tsinghua Peking University Champion Chapter" and a pen gift box with the school emblem of Tsinghua and Peking University. He stated that this book was written by his senior classmates together, and the pen gift box was purchased from a cultural and creative store on Tsinghua campus. The pen and book are priced at a total of 200 yuan and can be purchased as a set or separately.
Subsequently, multiple parents purchased these souvenirs. Among them, the manuals sold by young people are the most popular, including the "Tsinghua Peking University Top Scholar Chapter" and "Tsinghua Peking University Learning Chapter".
After reviewing two "manuals", the reporter found that they did not indicate the publisher, issue number, book number, or other codes. There are some personal information of the so-called "top scorers in the college entrance examination" and their signed articles in the book, most of which are about motivation, learning methods, etc.
The young man who gave the speech on site also showed his Tsinghua student card to the reporter. He stated that there is an internal "research and learning club" at Tsinghua University, which is spontaneously organized by students. He was introduced by his advisor and coordinated with travel agencies to be responsible for this student exchange activity.

A citizen living in Beijing told reporters that one of his friends came to Beijing for a trip a few days ago and purchased a "one-day tour" service. He was then taken to the entrance of Tsinghua University for a so-called "student exchange" and purchased similar souvenirs.
Are these "souvenirs" officially produced by Tsinghua University? The reporter asked the service desk staff of Tsinghua Art Museum, and she said that the fountain pen and booklet are not official souvenirs of Tsinghua Art Museum. Subsequently, the reporter contacted the cultural and creative store on campus of Tsinghua University, and the staff stated that they had not sold similar pens before.
Does the "research and learning club" among the young population who gave a speech and communicated with students on site exist? The reporter checked the list of student clubs on the official website of Tsinghua University, and found that among the more than 200 registered clubs, there are no names or club activities related to "graduate studies".
The reporter then called the Youth League Committee of Tsinghua University, and the staff said that there are currently no graduate student clubs registered, and it is uncertain whether this student's identity is an on campus student. "There is indeed no official study club, so don't believe anyone with a similar name."
A tour guide leading a "study tour group" at the Tsinghua Art Museum said that nowadays, study activities are mixed, and different travel agencies organize "student exchanges" in different ways. There is also a situation of "impersonating" students from prestigious schools. "What you're talking about may not necessarily be students from Tsinghua University, some are students from other schools."
There is no industry standard for research and learning activities
The service content varies in quality
The staff of the Beijing Cultural Law Enforcement Corps stated that there is currently no relevant industry standard for research and learning activities, so law enforcement agencies can only manage them according to traditional tourism services.
"Studying is something that has emerged in the past two years, and there are currently no relevant laws and regulations. We still follow traditional tourism law enforcement. If tour guides force them to buy things, it is illegal."
Wu Liyun, Associate Professor of the Chinese Culture and Tourism Industry Research Institute at Beijing Second Foreign Languages University, said that there are still problems with low entry barriers and uneven product quality in the research and learning related industries. Many projects are "traveling without learning, learning without research".
"The development of future study tours should have a national standard, which includes a comprehensive and systematic definition of content from course design to market entities' qualifications, to practitioners' qualifications, and to safety."
