Another country has decided to increase its troops. Institutions on the border between Belarus and Russia | Lithuania | Belarus
According to Deutsche Presse-Agentur on August 11, Lithuania has strengthened its military deployment and preventive measures on its borders in response to the presence of thousands of Russian Wagner mercenaries in Belarus.
According to reports, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Himonit said in a podcast on the country's media "Economic Daily" on the 11th, "We have deployed more intelligence personnel, our institutions are operating normally, and of course, there are also many military forces from the defense system and law enforcement agencies. They will also conduct joint exercises and take other actions."
The Prime Minister did not provide any further details. She said, "I don't think it's necessary to provide a detailed introduction in any way, throw out some numbers or other things, just like our Polish government colleagues sometimes do."
Poland announced this week that it plans to deploy an additional 10000 soldiers in the border area with Belarus.
According to reports, after the Wagner incident in June this year, the organization transferred its mercenaries to Belarus. The identity and mission of these mercenaries in Belarus are still unclear, but their presence near the eastern flank of NATO has made the region uneasy.
The situation has become more complicated due to immigrants from other countries taking Belarus to Lithuania, according to reports.
