Another country announces! They queue up to apply to join the BRICS | countries | apply to join
Since the official launch of a new round of expansion process by the BRICS countries, more than ten countries have clearly expressed their desire to join the BRICS cooperation mechanism, and recently, multiple countries have submitted formal applications.
According to the Dhaka Forum on the 19th, Bangladesh has officially applied to join the BRICS Cooperation Mechanism.

According to reports, this application was submitted after the meeting between Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and South African President Ramaphosa in Geneva on the 14th. A source revealed that during the meeting with Hasina, Ramaphosa actively responded to the relevant topic.
Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Mohman stated that based on the above situation, a formal letter of intent has been sent to South Africa, the rotating presidency of the BRICS countries.
As an important platform for cooperation between emerging market countries and developing countries, the BRICS countries are committed to maintaining multilateralism, actively promoting global governance system reform, enhancing the representation and voice of emerging market countries and developing countries, and have become a positive, stable, and constructive force in international affairs.
The Governor of Chang'an Street noticed that in addition to Bangladesh, there have been recent statements from two countries applying to join the BRICS "circle of friends".
On June 15th, Venezuelan Vice President Rodriguez mentioned in a video speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that multiple countries around the world are preparing to join the BRICS, and Venezuelan President Maduro has submitted an application to join.
On the day before this, on the 14th, Russian Ambassador to Egypt Borishchenko stated that Cairo has officially applied to join the BRICS Cooperation Mechanism and is very interested in "de dollarization".
In fact, both Venezuela and Egypt have expressed their willingness to join the BRICS countries.
Maduro previously stated during a meeting of South American leaders in Brazil that the BRICS countries are attracting those seeking peace and cooperation in the world, and Venezuela "hopes to become a part of the BRICS countries in an appropriate way.".
Regarding the issue of "de dollarization", Egyptian Minister of Supply and Domestic Trade, Moseleh, has stated that Egypt is seeking to use its own currency for settlement when importing goods from BRICS countries such as India, China, and Russia.
Saudi Arabia's Middle East Daily commented that given Egypt's significant political influence and economic size, its accession will further increase the weight, role, and influence of the BRICS countries, making their status even better.
It is worth mentioning that Honduras President Castro, who has just concluded his visit to China, officially applied for Honduras to join the BRICS New Development Bank during a meeting with its President, Rousseff, in Shanghai on June 10th.
As a mechanism and platform advocating multilateralism and cooperation, the BRICS countries are attracting more and more attention and willingness to join. South Africa previously stated that 19 countries have expressed interest in joining the BRICS countries through formal or informal channels.
The BRICS Leaders Summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from August 22nd to 24th this year. Recently, there have been media reports that French President Macron has proposed the idea of attending this year's BRICS summit.
According to a report by the French newspaper "The Opinion" on June 12th, Macron proposed the idea of France participating in this year's BRICS summit during a phone call with South African President Ramaphosa earlier this month. African media reported that Ramaphosa was "quite surprised" by the request, and if Macron participates, he will become the first leader among the G7 countries to attend the BRICS summit.

An analysis suggests that if the above news is true, the increasing influence of the BRICS countries is Macron's starting point. He intends to unite developing countries and achieve his vision of promoting "strategic autonomy" for France and even Europe.
Why is the BRICS cooperation mechanism so attractive? In the view of the Governor of Chang'an Street, the reasons at least include these three aspects——
Firstly, the BRICS countries are open and inclusive, adhering to true multilateralism.
Since its establishment, the BRICS mechanism has been clear that it is not only a cooperation mechanism that pursues the interests of member countries themselves, but also a cooperation mechanism based on the interests of developing countries. This is fundamentally different from some "small circles" in the West that engage in closed, exclusive, and factional confrontation.
Especially in recent years, facing the severe and complex international situation, the BRICS countries have always adhered to the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, strengthened unity and cooperation, worked together to overcome difficulties, demonstrated resilience and vitality, and achieved cooperation and mutual benefit.
Secondly, BRICS countries focus on development and are defenders of the interests of developing countries.
At the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Cape Town, South Africa earlier this month, foreign ministers and representatives from more than ten countries from the "Global South" participated in the "Friends of the BRICS" talks. South African Foreign Minister Pandor spoke at the beginning of the meeting, stating that the BRICS countries are defenders of developing countries. "Developing countries were abandoned by rich countries and global institutions during the COVID-19 epidemic."
At the meeting, foreign ministers and representatives from multiple countries expressed that developed countries have not fulfilled their commitments to the developing world, and the BRICS countries are the defenders of developing countries. They expect the BRICS countries to bring about change and believe that they are an indispensable mechanism for establishing a multipolar world order.
Thirdly, the BRICS countries have enormous potential and broad prospects for cooperation.
The BRICS countries account for approximately 42% of the world's population, 25% of the world's total economic output, and 18% of the world's total trade volume. In recent years, their contribution to global economic growth has reached as high as 50%. The BRICS countries have a vast market and enormous development potential, and play an increasingly important role in the global economic landscape. They have always played a prominent role in ensuring the security and stability of the global and regional supply chains.
I believe that as the expansion process of the BRICS continues to advance, more emerging market countries and developing countries will inject their strength into the BRICS mechanism, and the potential for cooperation between BRICS countries will be further tapped in the future.
China has always advocated promoting the expansion process and encouraging like-minded partners to join the BRICS "big family" as soon as possible.
Last year was the "Year of China" for BRICS countries. The Beijing Declaration issued at the 14th BRICS Leaders' Meeting in June last year clearly stated support for promoting the expansion process of BRICS countries through discussions.
At the beginning of this month, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended the official meeting of BRICS foreign ministers and the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Friends Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa. He stated that BRICS countries should uphold the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, continuously deepen practical cooperation, promote high-quality development, uphold fairness and justice, uphold confidence, self-reliance, autonomy, and self-improvement, strengthen strategic communication and coordination with developing countries, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. The Chinese side welcomes and looks forward to the early arrival of new members in the BRICS "big family".
