According to a report by Efi on August 11th, just one day after Ecuador's presidential candidate Fernando Villavincio was shot dead, a candidate for the country's parliament claimed to have been attacked.
According to reports, the candidate for parliament is named Estefani Puente, who is representing the political party alliance led by presidential candidate Yaku Peres in the election for the Los Rios provincial councilor. Puente claimed on social media that she was almost killed when her car was shot while traveling in the city of Kevedo.
Puente said of the incident that occurred on August 10th, "This attack is taking my life."
She stated that the current security crisis is "a product of government inaction, where the government is being hijacked by corrupt elements and gangs, and this is a consequence of previous and current governments, as well as those who collude with criminal groups and are protected by them.".
Puente thanks presidential candidate Perez for his support after she was attacked.
According to reports, photos released by social media and local media show that a car with a campaign logo was hit by a bullet on the left side of the front windshield.
