An American professor resigns in anger, and American universities are full of doubts about China related exchanges. China | Cooperation | United States
Recently, American professor Dennis Simon sent an email to China Daily stating that he has resigned from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill due to his university's fear of cooperation and contact with China.
In an interview with China Daily, Simon admitted that the current US China relationship is spiraling downward, and senior executives at American universities are very nervous. They are concerned that frequent exchanges with China may lead to the US government being wary of so-called "national security issues" and withdrawing funding for universities, so they have to deliberately keep a distance from China.
The United States has always claimed that the so-called "decoupling" and "de risk-taking" stem from politicians exaggerating the "China threat" and using exaggerated and biased narrative methods.
Simon said that Chinese students and scholars come to the United States with pursuits, either to improve their careers or to keep up with the forefront of science. The research results of Chinese and American scientists have appeared in top journals in the world, which proves that the cooperation between Chinese and American scientists is effective.
To reverse the current situation, Simon believes that the two countries urgently need to restore trust, starting with small things and then promoting big things with small ones, because this not only concerns the United States and China, but also the whole world.
