On the 1st, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government published in the Gazette a list of Honours and Appointments of Justice of the Peace for 2023. This year, a total of 403 people have been awarded honors and commendations by the Chief Executive.
It is reported that the recipients of honors and commendations come from different social classes and backgrounds. They have made significant contributions to Hong Kong in various fields and sectors, including public and social services, education, healthcare and public health, finance, industry and commerce, scientific research, innovation and technology, charity and public welfare, culture and art, sports, housing, transportation, construction and urban development, environmental protection, labor and welfare, women and youth affairs, and professional services.
The spokesperson of the SAR government said that the Chief Executive sincerely thanks all the winners for their contributions to Hong Kong and hopes that they will continue to demonstrate their strengths and serve society in their respective fields.
This year, a total of 5 people have been awarded the highest honor of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Medal and Commendation System, the Grand Bauhinia Medal. They are Legislative Council member Lin Jianfeng, former President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Pan Zongguang, President of the Hong Kong Sports Association and Olympic Committee Huo Zhenting, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions Lin Shuyi, and Hong Kong entrepreneur Shi Ziqing.
Former President of the Open University of Hong Kong, Huang Yushan, and Legislative Council member Yi Zhiming, along with 10 others, were awarded the Golden Bauhinia Star. 28 people, including Director of Immigration of the Special Administrative Region Government, Qu Jiahong, and Legislative Council member Liu Yeqiang, were awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star.
In addition, 2 people were awarded the Silver Heroic Medal, 15 people were awarded the Disciplinary Force and Independent Commission Against Corruption Excellence Medal, 41 people were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star Medal, 3 people were awarded the Bronze Heroic Medal, 46 people were awarded the Disciplinary Force and Independent Commission Against Corruption Honorary Medal, 90 people were awarded the Medal of Honor, 75 people were awarded the Chief Executive Community Service Medal, and 88 people were awarded the Chief Executive Public Service Medal.
Among them, members of the rescue team of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region who went to Türkiye's earthquake stricken areas to carry out search and rescue missions in February this year were awarded the Chief Executive's Public Service Award.
In addition, a total of 65 people have been appointed as Justice of the Peace by the Chief Executive.
It is reported that the award ceremony will be held later this year.
