On July 27th, China's Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu, revealed in Beijing that a total of 9699 people were held accountable for two rounds of central ecological and environmental protection inspections, including 1335 department level cadres.
On the same day, the Information Office of the State Council of China held a press conference, and Huang Runqiu introduced that in 2015, the central ecological and environmental protection inspection pilot program began in Hebei. By June last year, it had completed two rounds of inspections in 31 provinces and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and conducted inspections in 20 provinces. It also conducted inspections on two State Council departments and six central enterprises.
He revealed that as of June 2023, the first round of inspections had identified 3294 rectification tasks, with an overall completion rate of over 97%; More than 64% of the 2164 rectification tasks identified in the second round of inspections have been completed.
Significant results have been achieved in rectifying some major prominent issues. He gave an example that the Qilian Mountains in Gansu have gradually recovered from the past of indiscriminate mining, occupation, and construction to lush forests and clear rivers, from chaos to great governance; The disorderly and barbaric mining behavior in Helan Mountain, Ningxia has been effectively curbed, and the historical scars have gradually healed; The illegal buildings in the first and second level protected areas of Dianchi Lake in Changyao Mountain, Kunming have been completely demolished, and the land is now covered in green.
"After two rounds of inspections, we transferred a total of 667 accountability issues, and 9699 people were held accountable by the inspected individuals, including 1335 department level cadres and 4195 department level cadres, effectively playing the warning role of inspections," said Huang Runqiu.
