All sectors in the United States: China US cooperation is crucial and benefits global China US cooperation | China | United States
US Secretary of State Brinken visited China from June 18 to 19. President Biden said on 19 local time that "we are on the right path" with regard to Antony Blinken's visit. For a period of time, there have been calls from the US political, business, and academic circles to deepen Sino US cooperation.
China US cooperation is the aspiration of people
As a member of the Special Committee on China in the United States House of Representatives, a special committee specifically targeting China, Representative Andy King from New Jersey also acknowledges the importance of Sino US cooperation. He recently stated at events organized by the Brookings Institution and the Center for Strategic and International Studies that without a certain degree of contact between the two most powerful countries in the world, we cannot have a functioning world.
At the same event, Jennifer Lind, Associate Professor of Political Science at Dartmouth College, pointed out that from a defense and security perspective, the United States is looking at China from a narrower perspective. In her view, the United States has not only failed to play a more leading role in the economic field, but has also increasingly focused on defense issues.
Lind further analyzed that both China and the United States need to find appropriate ways of cooperation to jointly address nuclear non-proliferation, climate change, and establish mutual trust in the military field.
CSIS researcher Lily McElwye stated that cooperation is to some extent driven by competitive forces, such as seeking cooperation to expand diplomatic influence. "I think the best thing we can do is stay at the negotiation table and invite China to participate in the negotiations."
McClure noted that China has proposed initiatives such as the Global Security Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, committed to providing global public goods.
It is also worth mentioning that US Treasury Secretary Yellen recently met with members of the board of directors of the National Committee on US China Trade and other US business leaders, emphasizing the importance of trade and investment with China, and telling them that the US hopes to cooperate with China to address urgent global challenges.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk pointed out during his visit to China at the end of May that the interests of the United States and China are intertwined, like conjoined babies that are inseparable from each other. In an interview with Forbes magazine, He Maike, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, stated that Musk's visit to China highlights the crucial role of the Chinese market for the United States in the tense international situation, as well as the crucial role of business in Sino US relations.
China US cooperation benefits the world
Michael Mazar, a senior political scientist at the renowned US think tank Rand Corporation, emphasized that competitors can also seek cooperation. If they want to stabilize bilateral relations, they need to seek areas of cooperation that meet the conditions and implement measures that will help stabilize the situation.
In the eyes of experts, cooperation between China and the United States is not only in line with the interests of both countries, but also crucial for other countries.
Mazar pointed out that for some time, the US foreign policy has shifted towards confronting China rather than addressing the concerns of other countries. The United States should send a signal to its partners and allies that it is willing to involve China and play a constructive role, ultimately creating a more stable situation.
Associate Professor Lind analyzed, "China has lifted 800 million people out of poverty, which is a very remarkable achievement. In the United States, I heard the voice of 'We made China rich', which made me very embarrassed... Behind all these achievements is the blood and sweat of the Chinese people. China can become a leader in development, and this will be an important starting point, and we should pay tribute to them."
In Lind's view, the United States' dominant position in the world after World War II is only temporary and will not last forever. The United States should transfer more power to other countries.
