Protecting grasslands is an important measure for the development of animal husbandry. On more than 2000 mu of sandy grassland in Bayan Wendur Sumu Chagan Wendur area of Arhorqin Banner, workers are busy laying sand barriers. They use shovel to dig straw into the sand to make squares. After all the sandy grasslands are covered with grass squares, grass seeds can be planted by air to prevent wind and sand.
In recent years, Aruhorqin Banner has coordinated the comprehensive management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sands, implemented grassland ecological restoration and management projects, and adhered to various measures such as natural grazing and captive feeding, using grass to determine livestock, and dynamic balance. Since 2021, 40000 acres of desertified grasslands have been treated and 15000 acres of degraded grasslands have been restored. Nowadays, the sandy land here is showing a development trend of overall containment, continuous reduction, and good ecological environment.
While controlling desertified grasslands, the local area is actively developing the forage industry. Since 2008, Aruhorqin Banner has been exploring the efficient and water-saving cultivation of artificial grass on severely desertified and degraded grasslands in the south. After years of development, a total of 700000 acres of high-quality forage such as alfalfa, oat grass, sheep grass, and ice grass have been planted.
In addition, Aruhorqin Banner is promoting high-quality development of animal husbandry, improving beef cattle breeds, enhancing beef cattle quality, and promoting digital management of beef cattle. Currently, the local beef cattle breeding rate has reached 98%.
With multiple measures taken simultaneously, Aruhorqin Banner has formed an integrated livestock industry chain including grass planting, animal husbandry, slaughter, and sales, driving an annual per capita income increase of over 3000 yuan for farmers and herdsmen.
