They are an indispensable force in leading rural development and promoting international cooperation in poverty reduction.

In 2017, the Xiamen meeting of BRICS leaders passed the outcome document, the BRICS Skills Poverty Alleviation and Poverty Reduction Action Plan. In 2022, the 12th BRICS Conference of Agriculture Ministers adopted the BRICS Food Security Cooperation Strategy and announced the establishment of the BRICS Forum on Agriculture and Rural Development. As an important milestone in BRICS cooperation, the New Development Bank aims to mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging market countries such as BRICS and developing countries, and as a multilateral and regional financial institution, to make efforts for global growth and development. As a founding member and host country, China has always worked with other member countries to promote the stable operation of the New Development Bank, becoming a positive force in promoting South South cooperation and supporting global development.

Since its establishment, the New Development Bank has approved a total of 98 projects from member countries, with a total investment of approximately 33.2 billion US dollars. Its key areas include clean energy and energy efficiency, transportation infrastructure, water and sanitation facilities, environmental protection, social infrastructure, and digital infrastructure. In terms of investment projects, New Development Bank focuses more on sustainable infrastructure projects. Its overall strategy for 2017-2021 shows that about two-thirds of the projects invested by New Development Bank must be sustainable infrastructure projects; According to its overall strategy for 2022-2026, 40% of the funds are used to support projects that promote climate change mitigation and adaptation.

As of now, the New Development Bank has successfully completed the first batch of expansion, including Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, and Egypt as new member countries. Rajab stated that Egypt's accession to the New Development Bank provides a new platform for Egypt to strengthen cooperation with the BRICS countries and advance the development agenda.
