On the morning of July 13th, Yao Kai, a former member of the Party Group and Deputy Mayor of Hefei Municipal People's Government, was publicly heard in the first instance of the Chuzhou Intermediate People's Court on suspicion of bribery.
The People's Procuratorate of Chuzhou City accuses that from 2001 to 2022, the defendant Yao Kaili, who served as the Deputy Director and Deputy Director of the First and Second Office of the Secretary of the General Office of the Hefei Municipal Government, the Deputy General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Hefei Construction Investment Holding Co., Ltd., the Deputy General Manager and General Manager of Hefei Urban Construction Investment Holding Co., Ltd., the General Manager of Hefei Urban Rail Transit Co., Ltd., the Deputy Director and Director of the Hefei Urban and Rural Development Commission, and the Deputy Mayor of Hefei City, sought benefits for relevant units and individuals in engineering project contracting, project planning changes, etc., and illegally solicited and received property totaling more than 106 million yuan, either alone or in conjunction with others.
During the trial, the procuratorial organs presented relevant evidence, and the defendant Yao Kai and his defense counsel conducted cross examination. The prosecution and defense fully expressed their arguments under the auspices of the court. Yao Kai made a final statement and expressed remorse in court. At the end of the trial, the court announced an adjournment and announced the verdict at a later date.
