"Absurdity! We won't give Ukraine more money" EU | Ukraine
According to Reuters on June 30th, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban told the media on the same day that Hungary refuses to support the European Commission's plan to provide more funds to Ukraine and is unwilling to provide additional funds for the EU's increasing debt servicing costs.
During the EU summit held in Brussels, Orban stated that the European Commission's demand for Hungary to provide more funding was a "ridiculous" request.
According to reports, the President of the European Commission announced on June 20th that the EU will provide 50 billion euros in aid to Ukraine from 2024 to 2027. Previously, the EU reviewed the common budget for 2021-2027, which was exhausted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the energy crisis. High inflation and high interest rates have also doubled the cost of debt repayment.
Orban said, "One thing is very clear, we Hungarians... won't give Ukraine more money until they say where the approximately 70 billion euros of funds went before."
According to reports, on the 29th, EU leaders announced that they will make a long-term commitment to support Ukraine's security. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky urged them to start a new round of sanctions against Russia.
