About 20-30 kilometers away from the exit, details of the four person self driving accident in Lop Nur have been exposed! Body discoverer: Vehicle with sufficient fuel lost | Lop Nur | Vehicle
Recently, the incident of three people dying and one person losing contact while driving into a Lop Nur convoy has attracted media attention.
On July 28th, the Public Security Bureau of Ruoqiang County, Xinjiang issued a police report stating that a self driving convoy departed from Dunhuang City on the 22nd and crossed the national wild camel nature reserve in Ruoqiang without approval. On July 26th, one vehicle with four people lost contact, and on July 27th, the missing vehicle was discovered. Three people had no signs of life, and one person was missing.
On July 29th, a reporter from the New Beijing News learned from the Dunhuang and Ruoqiang police that another missing person had clues. After receiving the report, the police from both places have rushed to the location where the missing person was found for rescue. It is understood that Article 27 of the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Nature Reserves clearly stipulates: "No one is allowed to enter the core area of a nature reserve. If it is necessary to enter the core area for scientific research and engage in scientific research observation and investigation activities due to scientific research needs, an application and activity plan should be submitted to the nature reserve management agency in advance, and approved by the nature reserve management agency. Among them, if entering the core area of a national level nature reserve, approval from the relevant nature reserve administrative department of the provincial, autonomous region, or municipality directly under the central government should be obtained."
The incident in which all four people in the Lop Nur self driving convoy lost contact and died has sparked numerous speculations among netizens. Regarding the photos and rescue videos of the victims circulating on the internet, relevant industry insiders have also made some interpretations, but there is still no specific and clear information to prove the experiences of the four people who lost contact.
On August 1st, a reporter from Red Star News contacted Mr. Liu, who was assisting with the rescue efforts. He told the reporter that he received the last missing person's daughter's help online on July 28th, and then entered Lop Nur on the morning of July 29th to find the body of the missing person, which took 2 hours and 40 minutes. The location of the body is about 20-30 kilometers away from the exit of Lop Nur, and there is no satellite phone carried on the body.

"If the air conditioning in their car is normal, then there is no problem with them inside the car," Mr. Liu said. On the 28th, during his friend's rescue, he found that the victim's vehicle was stuck in sand and unable to drive normally, and it was not broken. "The vehicle driven by the four missing individuals is a new car with good air conditioning and sufficient fuel, but there is no drinking water left." According to Mr. Liu's understanding, the bodies of the first three missing individuals were found seven or eight kilometers away from the vehicle trapped in the sand. It can be inferred that they may have died after walking out of the vehicle for a period of time. Mr. Liu said that if there are no other issues with the vehicle, their chances of surviving while waiting for rescue on the vehicle will be higher than going out on foot.
Mr. Liu stated that he is a specially invited member of the China Exploration Association and frequently participates in rescue activities. He is familiar with places such as Lop Nur. He reminded everyone to pay attention to sufficient fuel and personnel supplies when entering uninhabited areas for exploration, especially water, food, and some rescue and emergency equipment should be prepared adequately. And the Lop Nur temperature has two indicators, one is air temperature and the other is surface temperature. The online controversy of 60-70 degrees refers to the surface temperature in the afternoon of the current season in Lop Nur. The local air temperature is only over 40 degrees, but the high temperature and sunlight can also be unbearable.
Regarding the lessons learned from this incident, Mr. Liu added, "If you are not adequately prepared for high temperatures, try not to cross uninhabited areas such as Lop Nur in July or August. When entering these areas, it is also necessary to equip them with sufficient and legitimate backup oil, and bring corresponding medication according to your personal physical condition."
