According to the Associated Press, many residents of Bogota felt the rumbling of buildings and floors during the earthquake. Videos circulating online show that in Bogot á, furniture and chandeliers inside houses were shaking uncontrollably during the earthquake. People rushed to the streets when an aftershock occurred.
Adrian Aralcon is 43 years old and works near a bustling city in Bogot á. He said that the shock was strong and lasted for a considerable amount of time. "This makes me feel fragile," he said. "Life changes instantly. You are powerless and can only escape."
Bogota Mayor Claudia Lopez announced on social media that a woman jumped out of a window in panic and fell from the 10th floor of a building to her death.
The Colombian Congress issued a statement stating that the earthquake caused a plaster ceiling in the Capitol to fall off and hit the table below, fortunately no one was injured.
The Colombian civil defense department said that at the epicenter of the earthquake in El Calvario, all residents have been evacuated, and many building windows have been damaged. A landslide has occurred in the nearby city of Biavesensio.
According to a statement released by the Geological Bureau of Colombia, more than 20 aftershocks occurred within nearly two hours of the earthquake, with magnitudes ranging from 2.0 to 5.6.
