A university caught fire, Russia claimed Donetsk was "attacked by cluster ammunition" Ukraine | Officials | University
According to Reuters on August 6th, an emergency situation official in Donetsk, a pro Russian city, said that after Ukraine launched shelling on August 5th, flames engulfed the wooden roof of a university building in Donetsk.
A local official wrote on the "Telegraph" social media platform, "The result of Donetsk's recent attack was that a building at the University of Economics and Trade caught fire."
The local emergency department official said, "The entire roof is on fire.".
According to reports, local officials accused Ukraine of using cluster ammunition during the shelling. Reuters is unable to independently verify this information. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, both sides have accused each other of using cluster munitions.
Ukraine, which received US cluster ammunition last month, promised to only use cluster ammunition to strike the enemy.
Ukraine did not immediately comment on the so-called shelling incident. Both Russia and Ukraine have stated that they will not target civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Donetsk municipal officials stated that there was no one inside the building hit by the shell. "The most difficult part is that the roof of the building is made of wood, so the fire spread quickly," according to the local emergency rescue department quoted by the Russian news agency. The fire was already under control in the early morning of the 6th.
