Yu Yuanzhi stated in a statement that the Japanese government's insistence on discharging nuclear contaminated water into the sea despite strong domestic and international opposition is an "unprecedented international crime" and a "substantial threat to the survival and dignity of neighboring countries and all humanity.". He said that if Japan cannot eliminate the international community's concerns about the legitimacy, safety, and impact on marine ecology of its plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea, it should withdraw its plan. Cancelling the plan is the only way to protect the safety of the Japanese and South Korean people and the Pacific Ocean.
