Quito News: On July 23rd local time, a shooting occurred in Manta, the third largest city in Ecuador, resulting in the death of the city mayor, one death, and four injuries.
Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior Juan Zapata stated on social media that two of the injured were suspected to be related to the shooting incident and are currently undergoing treatment under police surveillance.
Reuters reported that local police have found firearms and grenades in the truck carrying the gunman. At present, the gunman is still at large, and the police are not sure why the mayor was attacked. The report stated that at the time of the shooting, the mayor was inspecting the city's public works.
According to Reuters, on the 23rd, Ecuadorian officials also provided an explanation of a prison riot that occurred in Ecuador. A hostile gang brawl occurred in the prison, resulting in 6 deaths and 11 injuries.
