A doctor receives more than ten cases every day! The main culprit is it, with patients with nosebleeds flocking together
Recently, a large number of patients have been seeking medical attention at the Otolaryngology Department of Hangzhou First People's Hospital due to frequent nosebleeds.
Professor Li Yong from the Department of Otolaryngology told the Chao News reporter that his personal clinic alone encounters more than ten to twenty patients with nosebleeds every day. After careful examination and allergen testing, it was found that almost all of them are caused by allergic rhinitis. "Rhinitis, which is prone to occur in the autumn and winter seasons, has also begun to occur in the scorching summer, which is closely related to improper use of air conditioning."
Frequent nosebleeds
They all found allergic rhinitis
10-year-old Tao Tao walked into the outpatient department of the Ear, Nose and Throat Department of Hangzhou First People's Hospital with his mother's company. The accompanying mother was a bit anxious: "This summer, my child will have nosebleeds every three to five days, and the amount of bleeding is very large, often unable to stop. I don't know what's going on, but I'm afraid I might get some serious illness."
In the subsequent examination, Professor Li Yong found many bleeding points in Taotao's nasal cavity, and the nasal mucosa had already eroded, which is a typical allergic rhinitis.
The same situation also happened to Ms. Wang, a white-collar worker in the company. Miss Wang said that she was working at the company last week and didn't even touch her nose when she suddenly had nosebleeds. The amount of bleeding was huge, which scared her colleagues. Thinking of the Korean dramas she had watched before, the female lead often had nosebleeds after suffering from leukemia, which scared her and she quickly hung up. After examination, Miss Wang's nosebleeds were also caused by allergic rhinitis.
Professor Li Yong said that with high temperatures in summer, the number of patients seeking medical attention due to frequent nosebleeds is gradually increasing, and many patients are worried about developing blood diseases or tumors. In this regard, he said that do not panic when encountering such situations. Generally, more than 90% of patients are diagnosed with allergic rhinitis after undergoing X-ray and nasal endoscopy examination.
Air conditioning is a major culprit
Doctors remind correct use of air conditioning in summer
Why is there a high incidence of nosebleeds in summer? Professor Li Yong said that in the hot summer, if exposed to hot air for a long time, the nasal mucosa is prone to drying out and becoming fragile. On the other hand, in summer, people tend to stay in air-conditioned rooms for a long time, and the humidity in the room decreases, which can also cause dryness of the nasal mucosa. If slightly stimulated at this time, it can cause nosebleeds. In addition, allergic rhinitis can lead to nasal itching, causing rubbing of the nose and also causing nosebleeds.
"In the past, allergic rhinitis mostly occurred in autumn and winter, caused by cold air stimulation. However, now with the widespread use of air conditioning, summer has become a high incidence season for allergic rhinitis." Li Yong said that allergic rhinitis is generally caused by the patient's weakened immune system and inhalation of allergens through the nasal cavity. If the air conditioner is not cleaned in a timely manner after a summer of use, it will contain some microorganisms related to dust mites, fungi, bacteria, etc., which is very easy to induce allergic rhinitis.
In addition, there are also some patients who are simply allergic to cold air. These patients will experience nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and even nosebleeds whenever they encounter cold air... These symptoms are commonly referred to as "cold air allergic rhinitis". Due to the sensitivity of the entire respiratory system to cold air, especially in people with respiratory mucosal damage, if suddenly encountering a large temperature difference, it may be triggered.
So, how should allergic rhinitis patients use air conditioning? Professor Li Yong said that for people who are more sensitive to changes in hot and cold air, it is not recommended to use air conditioning for a long time, especially when sleeping. If possible, do not use air conditioning. If the weather is too hot, you can adjust the air conditioning vent and try not to blow towards your face. In addition, the temperature of the air conditioner should not be turned too low, and the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor should not exceed 8 degrees Celsius. When blowing air conditioning, you can turn on the humidifier to maintain humidity in the nasal mucosa.
Present these symptoms
It is recommended to wash your face frequently with cold water
Allergic rhinitis can sometimes be quite insidious, and many patients often only find out when they arrive at the clinic. Professor Li Yong stated that in addition to being prone to nosebleeds, allergic rhinitis often manifests as fatigue, yellowish complexion, dark circles under the eyes, and children are also prone to developmental disorders. If corresponding symptoms appear, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up.
If suffering from allergic rhinitis, daily spraying of physiological seawater or nasal mucosal repair agents can be helpful in treating nasal bleeding caused by allergic rhinitis or dry nasal mucosa. However, to fully control it, it is necessary to treat the underlying disease, seek medical attention as soon as possible, stay away from allergens, and undergo desensitization treatment. In addition, patients should exercise appropriately in their daily lives to improve their resistance and immunity. Frequently washing their faces with cold water can improve the ability of the nose to resist viruses or bacteria.
Professor Li Yong reminds that if middle-aged and elderly people suddenly experience nosebleeds without reason, they also need to be vigilant about the occurrence of nasopharyngeal tumors, and it is best to seek medical examination in a timely manner.
