From July 1 to 31, 2023, 23 provinces in mainland China reported 491 new confirmed cases of monkeypox, including 115 cases in Guangdong, 81 cases in Beijing, 49 cases in Sichuan, 40 cases in Zhejiang, 33 cases in Hunan, 31 cases in Jiangsu, 25 cases in Shanghai, 19 cases in Anhui, 17 cases in Tianjin, 17 cases in Hubei, 14 cases in Henan, 12 cases in Liaoning, 12 cases in Shandong, 9 cases in Jilin, 4 cases in Yunnan, 4 cases in Shaanxi, 2 cases in Fujian, 2 cases in Chongqing, and 1 case each in Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Qinghai. There were no severe cases or deaths reported.
According to epidemiological investigation and analysis, the epidemic presents the following characteristics: firstly, all cases are male, and 96.3% of cases are clearly male behavioral population. Secondly, the risk of transmission through other contact methods is low. Close contacts, except for same-sex contact, have not been infected. Thirdly, 89.2% of the cases were discovered through proactive medical consultations, 6.5% were discovered through follow-up screening of close contacts, and the rest were discovered through proactive reporting and screening. The fourth is that the vast majority of cases have typical clinical manifestations, mainly symptoms such as fever, herpes, and lymph node enlargement, with no severe cases or deaths.
