According to TASS, citing the Russian Embassy in Romania, 40 staff members of the Russian Embassy in Romania have left Romania on July 1st due to the Russian side's request to reduce the number of diplomatic staff in Romania.
On June 8th, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a document requesting the Russian Embassy in Romania to reduce its staff by more than 50 people within 30 days. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that in the context of Russia's special military operation against Ukraine, this decision by the Romanian side "reflects the current level of bilateral relations.".
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova stated that the Russian side believes that the decision made by the Russian side is a hostile attack, which will further deteriorate the relationship between the two countries. She emphasized that the Russian side will respond to the diplomatic actions of the Russian side.
