The 53rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council was held in Geneva from June 19th to July 14th. In the international context of difficult post pandemic recovery and constant global challenges, the Human Rights Council, as the core platform for the United Nations to discuss human rights issues, leads the direction of global human rights governance and has received widespread attention from all parties. At this meeting, the Chinese delegation deeply participated in discussions on various topics, took the initiative to speak out on issues related to the common interests of developing countries, elaborated on their positions and proposals, proposed initiatives and ideas, defended fairness and justice, and achieved positive results in their work. They also won universal support and praise from the international community.
During the meeting, the Chinese delegation actively introduced China's human rights concept, human rights practice and great achievements, told the human rights stories of China, the CPC and the Chinese people, and made use of various occasions to comprehensively introduce China's achievements in adhering to the supremacy of the people, constantly improving the level of human rights protection in the process of promoting Chinese path to modernization, and promoting the free and comprehensive development of people; At the same time, it also encourages countries to pursue a human rights development path that is both in line with the trend of the times and suitable for their own national conditions.
Ambassador Chen Xu, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, stated that at this meeting, China has promoted consensus among all parties on the basis of equality and mutual respect through national speeches, joint speeches, and draft resolutions, jointly curbing the politicization and instrumentalization of human rights, and promoting the healthy development of the international human rights cause.
Chen Xu introduced that China has also made joint statements on the rights of elderly women and the promotion of the rights of people with disabilities through artificial intelligence, which have been recognized by all parties. For example, in China's speech on promoting the rights of people with disabilities through artificial intelligence, more than 70 countries participated in the joint signing, including Western countries such as the United States, Greece, and Austria, which also created favorable conditions for future cooperation.
Chen Xu also stated that at this meeting, China continues to firmly defend international fairness and justice, and firmly opposes the politicization and instrumentalization of human rights issues.
On the platform of the Human Rights Council, China spoke to urge the United States to stop indiscriminate unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela, urge the United States and the United Kingdom to stop illegal military operations in Syria, and focus on exposing human rights violations such as Japan's nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea and Britain's violation of immigration rights. China also strongly supports Islamic countries in holding an emergency debate on the burning of religious scriptures, and calls for the implementation of the Global Civilization Initiative to jointly safeguard the diversity of world civilizations.
Chen Xu stated that China will continue to actively participate in the work of multilateral human rights mechanisms such as the Human Rights Council, promote global human rights governance towards a more fair, just, reasonable and inclusive direction, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
