2 deaths and 6 injuries, a military checkpoint in Colombia is attacked by the Colombian National Liberation Army | military | checkpoint
On the 21st, the Colombian military issued a statement stating that a military checkpoint in the state of Arauca in northern Colombia was hit by a car bomb in the afternoon, resulting in 2 deaths and 6 injuries.
The Colombian military condemned this "criminal act" in a statement.
According to the Colombian Times, two criminals had previously installed bombs in their cars and then detonated them at checkpoints on the highway.
The checkpoint is located on the highway from Tame in Arauca Oblast to Yopar, the capital of Casanare Oblast. Casanare State is located in the northeast of Colombia, with oil fields and transportation pipelines. Armed militants from various factions often clash over oil and gas resources.
Colombian President Petro has ordered the Colombian Ministry of Defense to handle this matter. There is currently no organization claiming responsibility for this matter.
Anti government armed organizations such as the Colombian National Liberation Army and the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces are active in Arauca state. Analysts point out that this may be a retaliatory action initiated by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, as the Colombian government army discovered and destroyed 2.5 tons of explosives belonging to the organization earlier on the 21st.
