According to the news from the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center on June 12, "Wu Gang", a 23-year-old giant panda, is spending his days in the isolation area of the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project Base of the Panda Center.
At the beginning of this year, a lump appeared in the mouth of "Wugang", followed by bleeding from ingestion. The Panda Center, together with the Head and Neck Oncology Department of West China Stomatological Hospital of Sichuan University and the Head and Neck Oncology Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, formed an expert team for multiple online and offline consultations. "Wugang" was diagnosed with malignant tumor osteosarcoma. The expert team has performed two tumor reduction surgeries for "Wugang", but the recovery effect is not ideal.
Due to the astonishing growth rate of osteosarcoma, the frequency and amount of oral bleeding in "Wugang" have increased recently during feeding. Although it is currently barely possible to consume small pieces of bamboo shoots, refined feed, and fruits and vegetables to maintain the body's energy needs, as tumors continue to grow and worsen, "Wugang" is facing life-threatening situations.
In order to fully treat "Wugang", after consultation and discussion with the expert team, it is believed that adopting interventional methods for local treatment is the best solution at present. The expert team is actively preparing for relevant treatment work, and "Wugang" will receive intervention treatment in the near future.
At present, there are no reports on the treatment of giant panda oral osteosarcoma, and clinical treatment and scientific research are still blank. We may not be able to predict what will happen to "Wugang" tomorrow, but we will send our best wishes to "Wugang", and our expert team will accompany and take care of "Wugang" throughout the journey, fighting against the disease together!
Let's cheer for "Wugang" together! Wishing "Wugang" all the best and a speedy recovery!
