A private light aircraft crashed on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 17th, colliding with vehicles on the road, resulting in the death of 10 people.
Selangor State Police Director Hussein Omar Khan reported on the same day that the crashed plane was a Bich 390 Premier 1 light business jet carrying 6 passengers and 2 crew members. It crashed at around 2:50 local time in the small town of Ermina, west of Kuala Lumpur, as it was preparing to land at a nearby airport. Ermina is located in the suburbs of the capital city of Selangor, Shahlan, about 25 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur. There are many residential buildings and factories in the area.
According to Hussein Omar, the plane lost contact with air traffic control personnel and subsequently crashed into a motorcycle and a car on the road.
The Malaysian Civil Aviation Authority said that the crashed plane took off from the northern resort of Langkawi Island at 14:08 local time, and its destination was Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang City, Selangor State. At 14:47, it contacted Subang Air Traffic Control and was allowed to land one minute later. At 14:51, air traffic control noticed thick smoke at the crash site, but did not receive an emergency distress signal from the crashed aircraft.
The Civil Aviation Administration stated that the aircraft is operated by a private aircraft service company in Malaysia. The Air Crash Investigation Bureau will launch an investigation into this plane crash incident.
Malaysia's Minister of Transport, Lu Zhaofu, held a press conference at Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Sudan later that day, confirming that the accident resulted in 10 deaths, including 8 on board and 2 on board a motor vehicle. He released the crew and passenger list, but said the identities of the two people who died in the ground collision are yet to be confirmed.
The local police said that the deceased passengers included state councilor Johari Harun from central Malaysia's state of Pahang.
Lu Zhaofu said that there are indications that the crashed plane deviated before hitting the ground, with the fuselage tilted to the right. "The investigation is currently underway, and the top priority is to search for the plane's black box so that we can know what happened."
Videos circulating on social media show flames and black smoke rising at the crash site on a major road in Shahland.
Eyewitness Mohammad Sayami Hashim, who had served in the Malaysian Air Force, told media reporters that he saw a plane flying in an "irregular" state. "Shortly after, I heard a loud noise. I approached and saw the wreckage of the plane, as well as the burning human body. I couldn't do anything."
