What kind of talents are needed?, Knowledge | System | Era in the Digital Economy Era
On June 30th, the "Embracing the Digital Economy Era and Building a High Ground for Talent Cultivation" forum was held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. At the forum, the attending guests jointly discussed cutting-edge issues and perspectives on the development of the digital economy and talent cultivation, colliding ideas, gathering wisdom, and reaching consensus.
The talent gap in the digital economy is increasing
A report points out that the current digital talent gap in China is around 25 to 30 million, and the gap is still increasing. Talent shortage has become an urgent problem that needs to be solved in the development of China's digital economy. How to cultivate innovative, composite, and application-oriented digital economy talents has also become an urgent question to be answered.
Mr. Liu Liehong, Party Secretary and Chairman of China United Network Communication Group Co., Ltd., stated that there are three basic laws of the digital economy, namely Moore's Law, Metcalfe's Law, and Davydo's Law, all of which come from developed countries and have been around for many years now. In particular, Moore's Law has been leading the global semiconductor industry for over 50 years. However, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence driving the explosive growth of computing power demand, it has far exceeded the rate of doubling every 18 months. The emergence of a new Moore's Law in the digital economy era is urgently needed.

Economic theory is a long-term "slow variable", while digital technology is a short-term "fast variable". The uniqueness of the digital economy lies in the combination and joint action of the two. This requires the study of the digital economy, not only to delve into slow variables such as supply, demand, business formats, and governance, but also to keenly grasp the rapidly changing digital technology as a fast variable. Conducting cross compound research can better explore the theoretical path and development pulse of the digital economy.
Mr. Zhou Zixue, former Chief Economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and former Chairman of SMIC, believes that the digital economy has five characteristics: complexity, comprehensiveness, innovation and exploration, practicality, and internationalization. Therefore, this major must have a broad range of learning methods or skills to continue learning, and have more horizontal knowledge. This major should be better at crossing cultures, sciences, and engineering. Secondly, the digital economy major must be integrated with economic entities, and it is not possible to separate it from industrial research.
【 Integration of numbers and reality: "comb type" talents 】
So, what is number real fusion? What kind of talents are needed?

Gao Hongbing, Vice President of Alibaba Group and President of Alibaba Research Institute, believes that the integration of data and reality should be the application, penetration, and reshaping of exponential digitization into the non digital real economy.
As we all know, IT is the first wave, Internet is the second wave, and intelligence is the third wave. This new era of highly intelligent technology is driven by the knowledge graph created by Google earlier, followed by the emergence of AlphaGo, Tesla, Big Models, ChatGPT, and more, all of which are constantly iteratively driven. When the era of artificial intelligence fully arrives and the third wave of data and real integration arrives, companies with a market value of 10 trillion US dollars will definitely be generated, which will further promote the deep penetration of the digital economy field. In such an era, teaching needs to be designed towards the third wave in order to win the future.
Gao Hongbing emphasized that it is important to establish a knowledge framework and system for the cultivation of talents who integrate data and reality, and to cultivate abilities in five aspects. This knowledge architecture system is like a "comb type". Firstly, we need to study the basic theory, framework, and characteristics of the integration of data and reality. We need to reflect the interdisciplinary and rapid iterative characteristics represented by the integration of data and reality into a set of systems, just like the "handle" of a comb. Then, we need to integrate with various vertical industries to establish a knowledge system. This comb can be many or few, but this handle must be present.
At the same time, it is more important to cultivate five abilities, which is to shift towards discussing problems using a digital economy mindset instead of an industrial economy approach. We use "numbers" to endow "intelligence" with innovative abilities; There is also the ability to learn the integration of knowledge and action, not just by studying books, but also by learning practical things, interdisciplinary integration ability, and the ability to widely use digital technology. These are basic abilities. In the era of digital economy, imparting knowledge is just a means, but cultivating abilities is more important. In disciplinary settings, the characteristics of crossing disciplines and boundaries are extremely distinct. The digital economy is a comprehensive interdisciplinary field, and its teaching and research need to be combined with industrial practice.
