This Fudan professor has his own "methodology", and students receive their desired job offers upon graduation. | Ma Zhongfa | Fudan
This summer, seven master's students under the guidance of Professor Ma Zhongfa from the Law School of Fudan University received their desired job offers or admission notices. The employment rate for guiding graduates has remained at 100% for many years, and Ma Zhongfa has his own methodology.
[Slow down first to get faster]
Many graduate students are eager to intern as soon as they start their studies. Ma Zhongfa told the Jiefang Daily Shangguan News reporter that employment is a "protracted war", with accumulation and thin development, and time is precious in daily life. "Without basic legal thinking and a rigorous knowledge system, it is difficult to 'win' when looking for a job. You need to slow down first to get faster in the sprint stage.".
He requires graduate students to first calm down and read the book well, and regularly hold reading discussion meetings, with students as the main speakers. "It's not easy to pass the book fair. First, you need to read carefully, be able to express yourself, and not be afraid of stage." Ma Zhongfa said that the book fair has trained students' communication and expression skills, and is a preparation for future job interviews.
Liu Ziyue, who recently joined a well-known financial company, did not have a bachelor's degree in law and had a weak foundation in law when she first joined Fudan University. Ma Zhong's emphasis on French requires her to first read the book well and practice basic skills, in order to minimize the cost. If you want to intern, you can go on winter and summer vacations. She gladly accepted and immersed herself in her studies, only to intern in the fourth semester. However, her solid legal foundation and problem-solving ability were praised by the internship unit.
In Ma Zhongfa's view, the most important thing in the learning stage is learning, and learning ability itself is a part of core competitiveness, which belongs to the bonus point category. For example, during an internship in the litigation team of a law firm, one often has to file lawsuits or resolve conflicts. If the basic legal concepts are unclear, it can become a deduction.
Another law master's student, Lin Zhenyu, had already published a paper in her first year of graduate school. At that time, she put forward her own views on the application of the due process principle in the national security review of foreign investment in China and the United States at a reading seminar, which was affirmed and encouraged by Ma Zhongfa; This later published paper played a certain role in winning the national scholarship. Although she later went to study in the UK and only interned for three months after returning to China, her professional level, theoretical foundation, and ability to apply professional knowledge left a deep impression on the interviewer during the law firm interview.
Some students need to "add", while others need to "subtract"
During the interview, Ma Zhongfa had a clear understanding of the characteristics of each student and blurted it out. "I like to chat with students. I usually meet them a few times, so I have a clearer understanding of their personalities. If I also learn some information from a side view, it will be very important." He often reminds students to combine their interests and personalities and find the direction that suits them as soon as possible.
In Ma Zhongfa's view, according to the characteristics of different students, some students need to "add" and some need to "subtract". For example, He Tianyang, a newly hired master's student at a securities company, is suitable for "doing addition". "His learning efficiency is very high, and he can complete multiple tasks at the same time. Therefore, I invited him to participate in research projects such as the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in universities and the extraterritorial effectiveness of intellectual property laws." Ma Zhongfa said. Liu Ziyue can speak French in addition to English, and Ma Zhongfa suggested that she pay attention to the social responsibility issues of multinational corporations. Regarding the employment direction, master's student Wei Yunan once had doubts, and Ma Zhongfa suggested that he try and make mistakes through internships. After experiencing different internship experiences in law firms and courts, he decided to apply for an elective position. "Since it's decided, focus on one track," Ma Zhongfa suggested to him to "subtract.". Now, Wei Yunan's dream has come true and he will join the Dalian Intermediate People's Court.
"Student employment is a systematic project, and the key lies in the students' own efforts and the cultivation of the school. As a mentor, I am pushing them behind the scenes." Ma Zhongfa sighed, saying that he went through many detours from being a rural primary school teacher to a university professor: before going to college, he wasted a lot of time because there was no one to guide him; After entering university, I was unable to plan my career well and wasted a lot of time. Now, as a mentor, using the detours he has taken to help students avoid them has become a wish for him and his students to grow together.
Recently, Ma Zhongfa and his graduates took a group photo in front of the Law School building at Fudan University. At the moment of parting, he repeatedly reminded those who were learning the Dharma to remain clear and calm, not to be trapped by the environment, and not to be controlled by emotions. Entering the workplace, while skills are important, it is also important to learn how to communicate with others.
