On the afternoon of September 1st, a new school drama - the original student version musical "Qiaotong Youth" - was successfully performed at the Shanghai Drama Art Center. This is the first lesson of the new semester jointly created by the Education Bureau of Hongkou District and the Shanghai Drama Art Center, and it is also a special "opening gift" for teachers and students in Hongkou.
The original student version of the musical "Qiaotong Youth" has set up the performance stage on the first floor of the Shanghai Theatre Art Center. This is the first time that Hongkou students who love drama have entered the "palace level" professional stage of Shanghua Theater. The special and professional stage performance experience enriches students' artistic learning and practical experience, and also allows them to appreciate the charm of drama, improve artistic aesthetics and literacy through immersive interactive performances.
In terms of plot creation, focus on how post-2000 students understand communism, learn party history, and view "joining the party", and use this as a clue to construct the plot. Through learning and practical exercise, students continuously establish the correct motivation to join the Party, inspire and motivate their classmates with a positive and upward spirit and actions, and jointly showcase the new era of youth style of contemporary teenagers who dare to have dreams and pursue them.
This time, the Hongkou District Youth Activity Center has been conducting student actor selection work in all high schools in the district since early June. More than 20 students were ultimately selected to participate in a two-month drama workshop and musical rehearsal. The Shanghai Drama Art Center provides students with comprehensive and targeted professional training in various aspects such as dialogue, music, and dance, including sound, stage, form, and expression.
The past two months of rehearsals have been a profound experience in learning art. Zhu Jiale, a student actor from Beihong Senior High School, said, "Since elementary school, I have been studying drama performance at the Youth Activity Center in Hongkou District. Now I am a member of the center's drama club. I love drama performance and like to showcase myself calmly and confidently on stage." In 2019, Zhu Jiale participated in the "First Class" of Hongkou District for the first time and played a little girl in "Pen and Ink Danxin". This year, she transformed from a "little girl" to the female protagonist of "Qiaotong Youth". "I find it unbelievable myself! Thank you to my teacher for teaching me how to relax and naturally play different roles on stage. Being able to stage on a large stage like the Shanghai Drama Art Center is a professional stage that people who love drama dream of. I will not disappoint everyone's efforts and trust, and perform well!"
The 90 minute performance seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. From time to time, laughter and applause could be heard from the audience. This is the first time Li Ziru, a high school freshman at Hongkou Senior High School, has watched a play, and she is deeply attracted by the scene. "The whole play starts from the perspective of high school students, making people look very empathetic. It tells the story of the male protagonist's pursuit of his dreams, and with the help of his teachers and classmates, he completes his transformation, which greatly touched me."
Gu Yihan from Beihong Senior High School has also performed plays before. "The growth of the male protagonist touched me a lot. He went from an immature little boy to a responsible, willing to contribute to others, with ideals and enthusiasm as his new youth." Gu Yihan said, his smile went from shyness to confidence, and his idea of joining the party was just to show his handsomeness. Later on, he became a young adult who could serve others and give them more care. "I hope to have such a transformation when I finish high school."
It is reported that "Qiaotong Youth" will have two consecutive performances for some teachers and students in Hongkou District, teachers from Shanghai Theatre Teaching and Research Group, art backbone teachers from Hongkou District Theatre Alliance School, and parents of student actors. It will also meet with teachers and students in the entire district in a combination of online and offline forms.
For many years, Hongkou Education has been linked by the Hongkou District Youth Activity Center and collaborated with the Shanghai Drama Art Center. The Shanghai Drama Art Center has established a professional team for choreography, stage design, and continuously promoted the "Drama on Campus" project. Hongkou students have performed red drama works such as "Song of Youth", "Pen and Ink Heart", and "Youth Ode", which are popular among students.
At the event, Hongkou Education and Shanghai Drama Art Center officially signed a three-year joint construction agreement for a drama education project. The two sides will base their efforts on the resources of the "three cultural regions" in Hongkou, focusing on "telling the stories of China, Shanghai, and Hongkou well", transforming cultural resources into educational resources, constructing a new model of drama education, further strengthening joint construction, deepening the integration of Germany and the United States, and working together to explore more diversified forms of student drama popularization, systematic training projects, and professional drama courses, creating new highlights of the Hongkou education brand.
