Recently, the launch ceremony of the new book series "Science Training Camp", jointly organized by the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Science and Technology Press, was held. The series of books will be consistent with the latest science curriculum standards, divided into primary, middle, and high school volumes, and will be extended based on the lesson plans in primary and secondary school science textbooks to expand knowledge.
Professor Wang Hui, Dean of the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, stated that the School of Public Health will leverage its advantages as a university and will collaborate with multiple institutions to launch the "Science Training Camp" series of books this year. The new book aligns with the new curriculum standards for primary and secondary schools, extends and supplements science and biology courses in primary, middle, and high schools, strives to achieve the addition of science education under the "double reduction" policy, stimulates students' scientific enthusiasm, cultivates their scientific thinking and innovative practical abilities, and contributes to the cultivation of future scientific talents.
The first book in this series, which will be launched this year, features a selection of 3 main themes, 12 scientific experiments, and over 50 knowledge points. Each experiment includes "comic+story introduction", clear experimental steps, key step explanations, and accompanied by experimental videos, allowing children to easily practice and operate in a standardized manner. Not only do they understand theoretical knowledge, but they also learn the complete experimental research process, including literature search, research design, research implementation, research recording, result analysis, and research report writing.
The series of books are attached with media science popularization experiment videos, and 100 small experiments that are easy to draw materials, easy to operate and can be done at home are selected. Through the vivid introduction and live operation of the anime virtual anchor "Xiao Wei", teenagers' ability to use their hands and brains is cultivated, and the comprehensive scientific quality and health literacy of the audience are systematically improved.
Jia Yongxing, member of the Party Committee and Deputy Editor in Chief of Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House, introduced that in recent years, Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Public Health have formed a closer innovative cooperation model through complementary advantages and led by party building. This brand activity conducts comprehensive scientific literacy training through open laboratories, expert visits to campuses, summer elite classes, and winter parent-child science popularization experiences, cultivating young people's scientific research thinking and stimulating their scientific enthusiasm and interest.
"Science Training Camp" collaborates with multiple primary and secondary schools in Shanghai to jointly establish a science training camp alliance. This summer, the "2023 Mini Science Training Camp" attracted more than 240 primary and secondary school students from 14 districts in Shanghai to sign up. The activity integrates scientific thinking, scientific experiments, popular science writing, and popular science expression, introducing a new paradigm for science and innovation education for primary and secondary school students.
