On June 25th, the 9th International Art Review Award issued a solicitation notice at the Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai, soliciting art review articles in English from around the world. IAAC 9 is jointly organized by the Organizing Committee of the International Art Critics Awards, the School of Philosophy at Fudan University, and the Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai, with academic support from the Royal College of Arts, the University of Edinburgh School of Art, and the International Art Critics Association.
At the launch ceremony, Henry Merrick Hughes, Co Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Art Critics Awards, stated, "Nowadays, more than ever, art critics write because of a genuine need, and successful writers who attract readers are likely to have received training in linguistics, psychology, sociology, or precise philosophy. Our reading habits are more enriched by these diverse transformations, and art once again proves to be precisely connected to the wide range of life issues it inhabits. A new perspective opens the door for thoughtful readers or exhibition audiences."
Sun Xiangchen, Dean of the School of Philosophy at Fudan University and Co Chairman of the International Art Review Award Organizing Committee, said, "IAAC, as an international art review award, gathers articles that reflect the contemporary differentiated art world, involving art exhibitions from all over the world, various cultural traditions, and various forms of art. When the global situation forces people in a more uncertain way, art also reflects this turbulent world in its own way, diffracts the current form, and opens up the focus of history to capture the moments of life. Art reviews place themselves between art and audiences, between works and society, and between the present and history, which is not only a completely independent existence, but also a part of contemporary art itself."
One of the organizers of this year's International Art Criticism Awards, Shanghai Jiushi Art Museum, stated, "By hosting this award, we hope that Jiushi Art Museum can establish a closer connection with contemporary art and art criticism on the basis of promoting and promoting traditional aesthetics, making Jiushi Art Museum a platform for outstanding artists and art critics to showcase their talents. We also hope to attract more art practitioners to actively participate in the cause of contemporary art criticism while enhancing public understanding of contemporary art criticism, and jointly promote the development of the art criticism industry."
The International Art Review Award is composed of an international jury of five experts, including Qin Siyuan, co-founder of the Sound Art Museum, Frances Morris, Honorary Director of Tate Modern Art Museum, Jonathan Watkins, independent curator and writer, Lucy Stitz, head of the Art Context Department at the University of Edinburgh School of Art, and Cai Yingqian, Deputy Director of the Academic Department at Guangdong Times Art Museum. The international jury will conduct a rigorous anonymous review after the submission process, and ultimately select 20 Chinese and English shortlisted authors, including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes. Among them, the first prize will receive a bonus of 80000 RMB and a short-term stay in Shanghai or London, while the second prize will receive a bonus of 30000 RMB each. 20 shortlisted works will be collected and published in bilingual Chinese and English in the 2024 Annual Exhibition Review of the 9th International Art Review Awards.
