"Chess Saint" Nie Weiping's on-site review: "Yuan Radish" robot defeats Chen Yaoye in the middle of the game | Go | Nine dan Robot
Last weekend, the AI chess robot version of "Yuan Radish SenseRobot" developed by Shangtang Technology had a peak showdown with world champion Chen Yaoye Jiudan, with "Chess Saint" Nie Weiping and CCTV Go host Chen Ying serving as commentator guests. Chen Yaoye said after the game, "I often play games with computer AI programs, but 'Yuan Radish' is different. It uses a mechanical arm to place the game, sitting opposite the player like a person, and the experience is very good."
The Alpha Dog, who defeated the world Go champion in 2016, is connected to a supercomputer that consumes nearly 50000 times more energy than the human brain, while the Yuan Radish is a physical robot that can be placed on a desk. From massive data centers to compact home robots, behind them lies the rapid advancement of computing power, high hand eye collaboration accuracy, and engineering innovation achievements.
Xu Li, Chairman and CEO of Shangtang Technology, introduced that the "Yuan Radish" chess robot integrates artificial intelligence and robotic arm technology, which can achieve Go practice and game on a real chessboard. It not only has a large number of exercises built-in, but also has human-machine game and online multiplayer game functions, providing Go learners with a visual, auditory, and tactile interactive experience. It can not only stimulate children's interest in Go, but also avoid damaging their vision like computers and mobile phones.

What is the chess power of this robot? The professional nine dan master is its touchstone. Chen Yaoye Jiudan won the world championship by defeating Li Shishi, Ke Jie, and Shen Zhenxu at the 2013 Chunlan Cup World Professional Go Championship, the 2016 Bailing Cup World Go Open, and the 2018 Tianfu Cup World Go Professional Championship, becoming China's fifth world champion to triple crown. He also won eight consecutive championships in the Chinese Go Tianyuan Tournament.
In this human-machine battle, Chen Yaoye took the lead in the black game. He changed his previous love for practicality and built an "external high wall" early on. In the 39th round of single level jumping, both sides quickly set several popular rules from the AI era of Go, and the situation was evenly matched. In the 40th move of White Chess, "Yuan Radish" takes the initiative to fight and deeply immerses himself in the black formation. Black Chess 41 Zhen Tou, 43 Breaking Eyes, and 47 Leaning in Three Steps are full of momentum, while "Yuan Radish" calmly responds.
Afterwards, Chen Yaoye broke into the white formation, attempting to create another battlefield, and the "Yuan Radish" easily dealt with it. Although the Black Dragon played alone, the White Dragon took advantage of the situation and surrounded a considerable area, maintaining its advantage. In the predicament, Chen Yaoye once again broke into the blank space, while Yuan Radish's defense remained impeccable, and the difference in vision remained even after the transition.

Faced with a desperate situation, Chen Yaoye continued to rely on the upper right plunder to entangle, but "Yuan Radish" calculated accurately, and the Black Chess Dragon was ultimately slaughtered. In the 192nd inning, Chen Yaoye conceded and won in the middle of the game.
In the competition commentary, Nie Weiping not only praised "Yuan Radish", but also affirmed Chen Yaoye's layout. He said, "Artificial intelligence has brought great help to the development of Go, and has had a great impact on the layout theory of human players and the concepts in contact warfare. With the support of artificial intelligence, the level of Go for professional players and enthusiasts will be greatly improved. I hope everyone can enjoy the fun of Go and appreciate its mysteries through AI."
"We hope that 'Yuan Radish' can allow every young person who loves Go to experience the fun of human-computer interaction at home." During the commentary on the competition, Shen Hui, the director of Shangtang Technology Innovation Engineering Institute, said that it condenses the leading Go AI technology into a robot that can be placed on a desk. Through the combination of screen, robotic arm, and voice, it brings new human-computer interaction methods, representing a future development direction of home robots.
