From the motto monument flower bed in Putuo Campus, the flower bed in front of the office building, and the lawn in front of the library, to the graduation flower sea area of the Wenmai Corridor in Minhang Campus, more than 24000 sunflowers, covering an area of approximately 1600 square meters, compete to bloom and grow in the sun.
With the graduation ceremony planned by the whole school for over a month, the campus of East China Normal University welcomed its most beautiful graduation ceremony on June 20th. From the Secretary and Principal to the graduating students, every teacher and student dressed in degree suits is laughing in the midst of the bushes, and even Academician Wang Linfa, nicknamed "Batman" internationally, has a perspective that is in line with the sunflower flower sea.
At the graduation ceremony, with the broadcast of the video "Blooming Flowers All the Way - Excellence and Setting Sail, Dedicated to the Graduates of East China Normal University in 2023", more than 8000 fresh graduates from 4407 graduate students to 3650 undergraduate students burst into laughter, with over 40% of them dedicating themselves to the education industry. In fact, since 2014, East China Normal University has planted a piece of "graduation flower" which is in full bloom in June and symbolizes beauty for every class of graduates. This year, through student voting, the graduation flower of 2014, Sunflower, was re elected.
So, on April Day, more than 40 staff members from the logistics support department fought for 12 consecutive hours, and with the help of volunteer students recruited by the school Youth League Committee, they planted sunflowers symbolizing hope in the two campuses. He is an academician of the American Academy of Microbial Sciences and the Australian Academy of Technical Sciences and Engineering, and was recently elected as a communication academician of the Australian Academy of Sciences.
This "Batman" explained the reason for obtaining this nickname from his own path of learning and research. In his eyes, success is "using 80% of your effort and ability to do what you love in the field you are interested in, and doing it better than average.". Therefore, he gradually fell in love with biology, especially bat biology, and emphasized the leading role of inner interests in a person's self achievement.
Wang Linfa has studied the virus carried by bats since 1994. When COVID-19 began, he had worked in this field for nearly 30 years and became one of the world leaders in this field. Wang Linfa believes that a simple experience on how to maintain success is to "prioritize yourself at any stage of your career" - for him, being a good person is more important than doing good research; Doing scientific research is more important than publishing papers; Writing papers is more important than being an academician.
Coincidentally, Qian Xuhong, the president, also told the story of Jiang Hualiang, a famous pharmacist and academician of the CAS Member who died at the end of last year, who developed new drugs to fight against COVID-19, and who, at the age of 57, searched for drugs for the people all his life. He hoped that students would "continue to be sincere, smile brightly, pursue excellence and stop at perfection after suffering".

After the ceremony, in the lobby of the second floor of the Minhang campus library, amidst beautiful music, Academician Qian Xuhong wore the Da Hong principal's uniform and took photos with graduates from various departments to exchange ideas.

It is reported that after thanking the sunflowers with a single head, the school will sprinkle "hundred day grass" seeds in the graduation flower area to create an autumn flower sea, which will be used as a tourist attraction for welcoming new students and National Day.
