Xi Jinping's Jiangsu Travel to Preserve Context and Remember Homesickness-Entering Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District Suzhou | Culture | History
On the morning of the 6th, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who was inspecting in Jiangsu Province, came to the Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District to learn about the protection of historical and cultural cities.
The Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District is located in the northeast corner of the ancient city of Suzhou, covering an area of approximately 116.5 hectares. It has a history of over 2500 years and its overall layout is basically consistent with the "Pingjiang Map" of the Song Dynasty. It maintains a dual chessboard pattern of "parallel water and land, adjacent rivers and streets" and a Jiangnan water city style of "small bridges and flowing water, pink walls and Dai tiles". It is the most typical and complete historical and cultural protection area preserved in the ancient city of Suzhou to date.
In 2002, Suzhou City launched the Pingjiang Road Landscape Protection and Environmental Improvement Project, adopting the restoration method of "restoring the old as before and preserving its authenticity", which effectively preserved the historical style of the block. In 2022, Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District was selected as one of the first national level tourism and leisure districts.
